With the MLB regular season underway, there is a matchup between two AL teams this Wednesday as the Texas Rangers and the Oakland Athletics will face off at Oakland Coliseum. Since it is still very early in the season, both teams could use a potential win in this game.
Rangers Look To Avoid Sweep
The Texas Rangers entered the 2019 season with hopes of finishing the season somewhere around a .500 record. However, the team is projected to win around 71 games this season so it is expected to remain below average throughout the season. Although it is really early in the season, the Rangers have actually looked decent as the team has won 12 of its first 22 games. However, the team has lost the first two games of this series by multiple runs as the Rangers will look to avoid getting swept this Wednesday.

The Texas Rangers are led by shortstop Elvis Andrus who struggled last season. Last season, Andrus suffered a massive drop in batting average as he only batted .256 along with six home runs and 33 RBIs in just 97 games. This was especially surprising considering the fact that his batting average was around .300 in each of the previous two seasons. However, he has looked extremely dialed in this season as he is currently batting .345 with three home runs and 15 RBIs.
Oakland’s Offense Keeps Rolling
The Oakland Athletics entered the 2019 season with hopes of competing for another playoff spot in the American League. According to Vegas oddsmakers, the Athletics were expected to win 83.5 games which means that this team should end the season with a winning record. So far this series, Oakland’s offense has been the story as opposing pitchers have had no answers. In the first two games, the Athletics have scored at least six runs. Oakland’s offense will most likely be the key for the team to potentially return to the postseason in 2019.

The Oakland Athletics are led by outfielder Khris Davis who has been tremendous over the last few seasons. Last season, Davis hit 48 home runs along with 123 RBIs as he was the only player on the entire team to break the 30 home run mark. However, Davis has been consistently awful when it comes to getting on base as he has had a .247 batting average in each of his last four seasons. So far this season, Davis has looked pretty solid as he already has ten home runs along with 22 RBIs.
- Athletics are 6-0 in their last 6 home games vs. a left-handed starter.
- Athletics are 17-5 in their last 22 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
- Rangers are 0-4 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
- Rangers are 0-4 in Smyly’s last 4 starts vs. American League West.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Simply put, Oakland is the better of these two teams and it is not even close. Oakland managed to make the postseason last year and Texas was awful so I see one of these teams as being significantly better than the other in this 2019 season. Furthermore, Oakland returns the bulk of its team from last season while its offense is heating up at the right time. Give me the home team in this one.
Prediction: Oakland Athletics
Full-Game Total Pick
Since both of these teams possess below average pitching staffs, I have to lean to the over in this game. Furthermore, both teams have solid lineups that can score at least five runs each so I think that this total is too low. I can see this game being somewhere in the realm of 8-5 so I will recommend the over in this game.
Prediction: Over 9.5
