Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB: Friday, April 26, 2019 at 9:40 PM EST
After a slow start, the Cubs are back on track and they have recently won three in a row and seven of eight games. Their pitching has been solid as of late and in a recent stretch of seven wins in eight games they gave up more than two runs in only one of the wins. Chicago ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of runs scored and their pitching ranks 11th in the Majors in team ERA. The Cubs are in 2nd place in the NL Central a couple of games back of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Diamondbacks have recently won three in a row where in two of the games, they scored in double-digits in runs. They are right on the heels of the first place L.A. Dodgers in the NL West and the pitching has been decent, but the lineup has led the team ranking 6th in the bigs in runs scored.
These teams recently met in a three-game set in Chicago where the Cubs took two of three games.
The Cubs have won six of their last eight games facing the Diamondbacks and have also won six of their last eight games against them in Arizona.
Hendricks looks to repeat last start
Kyle Hendricks (1-3 3.54 ERA) gets the nod in this game and his last start was a gem tossing seven scoreless innings and only allowing three hits in a 5-1 win over the Diamondbacks. The Cubs had lost his previous three starts where he gave up 14 runs in 13 1/3 innings of work. Chicago has won four of Hendricks’ last five starts against the Diamondbacks and have won seven of his last nine starts facing a team with a winning record.
Chicago’s Javier Baez is among the league leaders in HR and RBI. Three players for the team have at least five HR and four players have at least 14 RBI. Friday has been kind to the Cubbies, as they have won eight of their last 11 Friday games and on top of that they have won their last five Friday games when Hendricks has been on the hill.
Ray looks for 2nd straight solid start, but a W this time
Robbie Ray (0-1 3.95 ERA) goes for the Diamondbacks in this game and he had a solid last outing, but got little support in a loss. In his last start, he only gave up one run on four hits in six innings in a 2-1 loss to the Cubs. Arizona has lost three of Ray’s five starts this season and in the three losses he only gave up four runs while in the two wins he gave up eight runs. After striking out 22 batters in Ray’s first three starts he has struck out four in each of his last two starts.
Ketel Marte leads the Diamondbacks in RBI and he went deep twice in a recent game.
From the left, from the left, from the left, from the left.
From the right, from the right, from the right, from the right.

Christian Walker leads the club in batting average and HR and is batting .400 in the last seven days with three HR. Arizona has won their last seven games against a team with a winning record.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are:
- 7-0 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record
- 4-1 in their last 5 vs. National League Central
- 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter
- 8-2 in their last 10 overall
The Chicago Cubs are:
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Tough call in this one, as both teams are playing well as of late and both starters for this game are coming off solid last outings. The Diamondbacks don’t have a great home record, but going with them in this game facing a Chicago team that is under .500 on the road. Look for a pitcher’s duel in this game with Ray besting Hendricks and Arizona will take this NL matchup.
Prediction: PICK: Diamondbacks
Full-Game Total Pick
Not only is the Under record 8-3-1 in the last 12 games between these teams, but the total has gone Under in Hendricks’ last four starts facing the Diamondbacks. Both of those trends will continue, as this will be a pitcher’s duel and a low scoring game so take the Under.
Prediction: PICK: Under
