The Detroit Tigers will be looking for another win as they take on the Oakland Athletics this Thursday. The Tigers are 19-23 after losing to the Astros in their last game. Meanwhile, the Oakland Athletics are 19-25 after losing to the Mariners on Tuesday. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records in this game.
Oakland Continues To Slump
The Oakland Athletics entered the 2019 season with hopes of competing for another playoff spot in the American League. According to Vegas oddsmakers, the Athletics were expected to win 83.5 games which means that this team should end the season with a winning record. So far this season, Oakland has been extremely underwhelming as it has only won 19 of its first 44 games. To make matters worse, the team is in tied for last place in the AL West division. Oakland was expected to take a small step back this season but it has made the road to potentially returning to the postseason in 2019 extremely difficult thus far.

The Oakland Athletics are led by outfielder Khris Davis who has been tremendous over the last few seasons. Last season, Davis hit 48 home runs along with 123 RBIs as he was the only player on the entire team to break the 30 home run mark. However, Davis has been consistently awful when it comes to getting on base as he has had a .247 batting average in each of his last four seasons. So far this season, Davis has looked pretty solid as he already has 12 home runs along with 28 RBIs.
Detroit Looks To Win Another Home Game
The Detroit Tigers entered the 2019 season with hopes of being a lot more competitive in the American League. However, despite the team being projected to finish the season in the basement, the Tigers have actually looked decent this as it is hovering around a .500 record. The team has won 18 of its first 41 games and is in fourth place in the AL Central division. However, the team just got swept by the Houston Astros and has lost six of its last eight games. The Tigers are also just 9-11 at home this season as the team will now have a chance to win its tenth home game of the season on Thursday.

The Detroit Tigers are led by outfielder Nicholas Castellanos who was tremendous last season. Last season, Castellanos hit 23 home runs along with 89 RBIs. However, he was also a sold contact hitter as he had a .298 batting average and a .354 on-base percentage. So far this season, he has looked a bit underwhelming as he only has a .270 batting average while only recording three home runs and 12 RBIs. With another home game up next, look for him to play a big role if the Tigers plan on winning this game.
- Tigers are 1-5 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- Tigers are 1-4 in their last 5 home games.
- Athletics are 7-0 in the last 7 meetings in Detroit.
- Athletics are 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Even though this game is in Detroit, I still believe that Oakland is the better of these two teams. Detroit has started off the season decently well but the team’s pitching has struggled lately so I can see Oakland’s lineup having an easy time scoring runs in this game. I expect this game to be extremely close throughout but I think the Athletics will do just enough to squeak out of this game with a victory.
Prediction: Oakland Athletics
Full-Game Total Pick
Since both of these teams possess below average pitching staffs, I have to lean to the over in this game. Furthermore, both teams have solid lineups that can score at least five runs each so I think that this total is too low. I can see this game being somewhere in the realm of 6-5 so I will recommend the over in this game.
Prediction: Over 8.5
