Oakland A’s vs. Cleveland Indians
MLB: Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 1:10 PM EST
The A’s have been hot as they come in winners of four straight recently and not only did they win Game 1 of this series, where they hit three HR, but won the last two games against the Indians in a series a little over a week ago in Oakland.

The club is still well out of first place in the AL West where the Houston Astros are running away with the division having the biggest division lead in MLB. Oakland has had good balance on the season even though they are under .500 and in their recent four-game win streak they only allowed 10 runs.
The Indians had won two straight before losing to the A’s in the first game of this series. They only gave up one run in the two wins before giving up six to Oakland in the Game 1 loss. Cleveland is in 2nd place in the AL Central a few games back of the surprising Minnesota Twins. On the season, the Tribe have been led by their pitching staff, which took a hit recently when Ace Corey Kluber broke his arm from a line drive.
The A’s have won five of their last six games facing the Indians.
Keep it up Frankie
Frankie Montas (5-2 2.67 ERA) gets the start in this game and he has been solid and steady all season. He has not given up more than three earned runs in his last four starts and the A’s have won his last two outings where he gave up two runs in each. In Montas’ last start he lasted eight 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on four hits in a 7-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. He faced Cleveland in his start before his last one giving up two runs in six innings in a 4-3 A’s win. Oakland has won Montas’ last four starts after a Quality Appearance in his previous start.
Kris Davis, who is listed as day-to-day with a minor injury, and Matt Chapman each have at least 11 HR and the balanced lineup has six players with at least 22 RBI. The A’s are well under .500 on the road this season and they have lost 19 of their last 26 road games facing a right-hand starter.
2nd win against Oakland?
Jefry Rodriguez (1-3 3.45 ERA) gets the nod in this game for the Tribe and his first win of the season came in the one before his last one facing Oakland. In that game, he gave up three runs on six hits in six innings in a 5-3 Cleveland win. The Indians lost his last start where he gave up four runs in six innings in a 5-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Rodriguez gave up two HR in his last start and has given up three in his last two outings.
Cleveland does not rank in the top 20 in MLB in runs scored and they rank near the bottom of the pack in team batting average. Carlos Santana is the only player with over 15 RBI and he leads the team in batting average and HR as well. While the Indians are 5-2 in their last seven home games recently they have lost four of their last five games facing teams from the AL West.
The Cleveland Indians are:
- 1-4 in their last 5 vs. American League West
- 1-4 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15
The Oakland A’s are:
- 4-0 in their last 4 road games
- 7-1 in their last 8 vs. a team with a winning record
- 4-1 in their last 5 Wednesday games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Have to go with the A’s in this one not only because Montas is on the hill, but also because Oakland has a better lineup. They only scored three runs off Rodriguez in facing him in Oakland recently, but they will get to him more in this game. He will not have a great outing while Montas will and add that up and you get an A’s win.
Prediction: PICK: A’s
Full-Game Total Pick
The total went Under in every game in the recent three-game set between these teams. The A’s will get to Rodriguez for a few runs, but they will not light him up and Montas will have yet another solid outing. Two of the key head-to-head betting trends point to the Under in this game and those trends should be followed with this game going Under the posted total.
Prediction: PICK: Under
