The Detroit Tigers will be looking for another win as they take on the New York Mets this Saturday. The Tigers are 19-29 after beating the Mets in their last game. Meanwhile, the Mets are 24-26 after losing to the Tigers yesterday. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records in this game.
Detroit Finally Snaps Losing Streak
The Detroit Tigers entered the 2019 season with hopes of being a lot more competitive in the American League. However, despite the team being projected to finish the season in the basement, the Tigers have actually looked okay as it is hovering around a .500 record. The team has won 19 of its first 48 games and is in fourth place in the AL Central division. However, the team finally was able to snap its nine-game losing streak after beating the Mets yesterday in a thrilling 9-8 victory.

The Detroit Tigers are led by outfielder Nicholas Castellanos who was tremendous last season. Last season, Castellanos hit 23 home runs along with 89 RBIs. However, he was also a sold contact hitter as he had a .298 batting average and a .354 on-base percentage. So far this season, he has looked a bit underwhelming as he only has a .265 batting average while only recording three home runs and 13 RBIs.
Mets Lose First Game Of Series
The New York Mets entered the 2019 MLB season with hopes of returning to the postseason for the first time since 2016. According to Vegas oddsmakers, the Mets are expected to win 85.5 games which means that this team should end the season with a winning record. So far this season, New York has been very average as the team has lost 26 its first 50 games. To make matters worse, the team struggled with its pitching yesterday and lost the first game of this series against the Tigers. Specifically, the Tigers scored nine runs as the team won 9-8 against the Mets.

The New York Mets are led by rookie first baseman Pete Alonso who has been amazing this season. So far this season, Alonso has looked dialed in at the plate. However, he has also displayed a tremendous amount of power as he has a team-leading 17 home runs along with 38 RBIs. Alonso is currently the front-runner to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award and for good reason.
- Mets are 7-0 in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
- Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 overall.
- Tigers are 0-4 in their last 4 interleague road games vs. a team with a losing record.
- Tigers are 1-8 in their last 9 interleague games vs. a left-handed starter.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Simply put, New York is the better of these two teams and it is not even close. New York has injected a lot of talented youth into its roster this season while the Tigers have been terrible up to this point in time. Furthermore, the Mets’ offense has been extremely hot lately and I expect this game to be pretty lopsided throughout as the Mets win this game.
Prediction: New York Mets
Full-Game Total Pick
Since both of these teams possess below average pitching staffs, I have to lean to the over in this game. Furthermore, both teams have the ability to put up at least five runs in any baseball game so I think that this total is too low. I can see this game being somewhere in the realm of 6-5 so I will recommend the over in this game.
