Full-Game Side Bet
Take the Padres here. This would normally be CC Sabathia’s start, but Sabathia went on the 10 day injured list last week with knee inflammation. They could move up Masahiro Tanaka’s start, or look down the depth chart or into the bullpen for a spot start. Whatever the solution, it’s not optimal. This gives the advantage to the Padres and Strahm, who is 2-3 but has been very solid. He was excellent in his last start, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings in a win over Arizona. The Padres are 4-1 in Strahms last 5 starts with 5 days of rest. Be sure to check the Yankee starter tomorrow.
Prediction: San Diego
Full-Game Total Pick
Go with the over. The Yankees pitching staff has been torn apart by injuries and now with Sabathia out for a few starts, the ranks are getting very thin. Fortunately, the bullpen has held them together, but I don’t like the Yankees in this spot, having to travel from KC after a game that ended at about 7 ET on Sunday to play Monday afternoon at 1 pm. The over is 4-0 in Yankees last 4 interleague home games vs. a left-handed starter. Also, the over is 5-1 in Padres last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
