Milwaukee Brewers vs Houston Astros

Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston Texas

When: Wednesday, June 12, 2019, 8:10 pm Eastern

We have an inter-league MLB matchup in an American League Park to discuss when the Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros meet for game two of their scheduled two-game series. This write-up was published prior to the conclusion of Tuesday night’s MLB action and the opinions shared is based on the completed play from Monday night MLB contests.

Milwaukee is first in the National League Central and plans for right-hander Brandon Woodruff to pitch against the Astros. Houston is first in the American League West and scheduled righty Justin Verlander to pitch against Milwaukee. I’m the Flash and will be discussing this game with you today.

Brewers Four Game Winning Streak

The Brewers is playing good baseball and has won seven of its last ten games and enters Tuesday nights game with Houston riding a four-game winning streak. Milwaukee has a 16-15 record away from Miller Park and average 4.90 runs per game on the road this season. Reigning National League MVP outfielder Christian Yelich picked up where he left off last season and leads the Brewers with 24 home runs, 53 RBI and a .340 average with a .446 OBP this season. Infielder Mike Moustakas is also having a fine season with 20 bombs, 43 RBI and a .337 OBP over 233 at-bats this season.

Milwaukee lists a bunch of pitchers on their IL but no one of significance is injured for Tuesday night.

Woodruff (8-1, 3.87 ERA) is having a strong 2019 campaign with a 1.17 WHIP and 3.43 xFIP suggest Woodruff has been unlucky and could see some positive regression at some point this season. Woodruff strikes out 10.90 per nine innings and allows 2.42 walks and just under one bomb per nine innings pitched this season.

Houston has a powerful offense that doesn’t strike out much with an above average walk rate and Woodruff with his 41 percent groundball rate and 38 percent hard contact rate needs to be very careful as the Astros power bats boast a .198 ISO and .280 BABIP with a 116 wRC+.

Astros Injury Riddled Roster

Houston has taken over the American League West and has a nine-game lead over the Texas Rangers. The Astros have won eight of their last ten and enter Tuesday night hoping to continue a one-game winning streak. Houston scores just over five runs per game at Minute Maid Park where they are 24-9 this season. Infielder Alex Bregman leads Houston with 18 bombs and 44 RBI and outfielder Michael Brantley leads the club with a .374 OBP and .317 batting average.

Astros infielders Jose Altuve, Aledmys Diaz, and Carlos Correa along with outfielder George Springer are all out with an assortment of maladies and out for their series with the Brewers. Those are three key pieces to the Astros puzzle and Diaz was the replacement for Correa, so the Astros is scrambling.

Verlander (9-2, 2.31 ERA) has an elite 0.74 WHIP and his 3.67 xFIP suggests maybe Verlander has been lucky and could see some regression at some point this season. Verlander strikes out 10.57 per nine innings and allows 1.83 walks and 1.35 home runs per nine innings pitched this season.

Verlander has a 46.8 percent fly ball rate and allows a 40 percent hard contact rate this season that a Brewers side with a .199 ISO and .304 BABIP with a wRC+ of 108 could really pose problems for Verlander. Luckily for Verlander, the Brewers have a 24 percent strikeout rate that could give the righty from Virginia some breathing room, but he’ll need to be careful as Milwaukee has a high walk rate.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

Hopefully, we get a good price because I like Verlander at home Wednesday night. As sensational as he’s been overall, Verlander is probably better at Minute Maid Park where he sports a 2.00 ERA over 36 innings pitched with a 0.64 WHIP which is just nuts. The Astros might be hurting but their lefty bats like Brantley and Josh Reddick is healthy and Woodruff has real trouble with left-handed bats this season.

Cash with the Flash and play Houston to beat Milwaukee Wednesday night.

Prediction: Astros

Full-Game Total Pick

With these two pitchers, I expect a low scoring baseball game Wednesday night. Both have low WHIP numbers and allow less than a 4.00 xFIP with their home/road splits. This should be a really good game to watch and I suspect we’ll see plenty of strikeouts and not that many bombs in Minute Maid Park Wednesday night.

Cash with the Flash and play UNDER on Wednesday night.

Prediction: Under
