The Minnesota Twins are hoping to stay on track at home against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.

Mariners struggling to overcome pitching woes

Following a hot start to the season, the Mariners have seemingly fallen back down to earth as they have dipped below the .500 mark on the year that has pushed them well out of the playoff picture altogether. Seattle has moved to 18 games out of first place in the AL West trailing the Houston Astros for that vaunted spot about a month ahead of the All-Star break. They have struggled to play with any consistency in the process dropping six out of their last 10 games played that has given them one of the worst records in the American League in the process. The Mariners have struggled to find their way on the mound as they rank 29th in ERA, last in opposing batting average, allowed the most hits, given up the second-most home runs, and are 29th in opponent’s slugging percentage. These shortcomings on the hill have only further extenuated the problems that have continued to arise for the team as the season unfolds.

The Mariners are sending right-hander Mike Leake, who has had his fair share of pitching woes this season currently holding a 5-6 record with a 4.30 ERA in his first 13 starts. Leake is coming off back-to-back wins in his last two starts with his most recent outing being a complete game performance giving up just one run on six hits in a 14-1 win over the Houston Astros. However, he has struggled on the road this season holding a 1-4 record with a 5.57 ERA in seven starts while giving up 47 hits, 14 home runs, and holds a .278 opposing batting average in 42.0 innings pitched. His struggles on the road could easily flare up on the road against one of the best offenses in the league. This will be the deciding factor for Wednesday’s game that will need Leake to put a strong outing in order for the Mariners to have a chance to pull out a win.

Twins continuing to surge upward

The Twins have continued to push forward with an impressive campaign holding one of the top records in the league. This has seen them take a commanding lead in the AL Central being up 10.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Indians through the first 64 games of the season. the Twins have had a tremendous amount of balance both on the mound and at the plate this year. Minnesota has accumulated several promising young talent that has pushed forward a bright future ahead of the franchise this season and well beyond it.Β  They have had one of the most productive offenses that have plenty of depth that has led to them being one of the potent scoring teams in the league. In fact, the Twins are currently ranked first in home runs, third in hits, first in runs scored, third in doubles, and first in batting average

This has seemingly seen shortstop Jorge Polanco emerge as a potential AL MVP candidate behind his strong start to the year as he’s batting .333 with 10 home runs, 34 RBI, 41 runs scored, and a .569 slugging percentage. He has been a key contributor to their offense that has helped them stay at the top of the league in being among the best in the majors. The Twins will be turning to right-hander Jose Berrios, who is 8-2 along with holding a 3.14 in his first 13 starts to the year. Berrios has been strong at home this season as he holds a 5-1 record and a 2.72 ERA, and 63 strikeouts in his first six starts at Target Field. Berrios is coming off a strong start against the Cleveland Indians where he went six innings giving up two runs on two hits. This should continue against the struggling Mariners at home on Wednesday night.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

The Twins have been arguably the best team in the AL through much of this season, which should continue to see them stay on track. They have the prime opportunity to go up against an inconsistent arm in Leake. All of this seeming is leaning in Minnesota’s direction for Wednesday’s tilt

Prediction: Minnesota -185

Full-Game Total Pick

The Twins have had one of the top pitching staffs in the league that has been steadied by their starting rotation. This should continue with Perez on the mound that should make this is a lower-scoring affair. It should also be noted that the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Minnesota between both teams.

Prediction: Under 10
