Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox
MLB: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 4:05 PM EST
The Rangers have recently won three of four games and took the first game of this series winning in extra innings. The club is a few games over .500 and in 2nd place in the AL West, but they still are nearly 10 games back of the Houston Astros. Texas ranks 2nd in MLB in runs scored and while their pitching only ranks 24th in team ERA their staff has been pretty solid lately.
After winning four in a row the Red Sox then lost four of their next five games. They are hovering around .500 and in 3rd place in the AL East eight games back of the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston’s pitching ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of ERA and while their lineup ranks 5th in the Majors in runs scored in a recent five-game stretch they only totaled 12 runs.
The Rangers had lost seven in a row to the Red Sox in Boston before taking Game 1 of the series.
Lynn has been steady
Lance Lynn (7-4 4.39 ERA) gets the nod in this game for the Rangers and he has been steady in his last several starts. He has not given up more than three runs in his last six starts and has given up two runs in each of his last two starts. Texas has lost two of Lynn’s last three starts not giving him much run support and in his last outing he gave up two runs on six hits in six innings in a 5-3 loss to the Oakland A’s. This is Lynn’s first start of the season against the Red Sox and the Rangers are 6-2 in his last eight starts after a Quality Appearance in his previous start.
Elvin Andrus leads the Rangers batting just over .300, has hit safely in eight of his last nine games and was the hero in Game 1 driving in the winning run in the 10th inning.

Joey Gallo leads the team in HR and tied for the lead in RBI but is on the 10-day DL and will not play in this game.
Porcello has been knocked around
Rick Porcello (4-6 4.86 ERA) gets the start in this game and he has been knocked around in his last two starts. The Red Sox have lost his last two starts where he gave up nine runs in 10 2/3 innings and in his last outing, he gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings in a 5-1 loss to the Rays. Boston has won seven of Porcello’s last 10 home starts and they have won his last four starts facing the Rangers.
Rafael Devers is batting nearly .300 for the Red Sox, but he has been in a slump as of late and seen his batting average drop 24 points in the last 10 games. In a recent five-game stretch where Boston lost four games, they only scored seven runs in the four losses.
The Boston Red Sox are:
- 1-4 in their last 5 overall
- 1-6 in their last 7 home games
- 1-4 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record
The Texas Rangers are:
- 4-0 in their last 4 during game 3 of a series
- 5-0 in their last 5 Wednesday games
- 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record
- 11-4 in their last 15 games vs. a right-handed starter
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Red Sox are slumping, and they recently lost six of seven home games. Porcello has not been sharp in his last two starts while Lynn has been steady in his last few outings. Lynn will be steady once again and get the better of Porcello, who will have a decent outing, but will give up some runs. Like Game 1 this game will be a close game and a low scoring affair, which the Rangers will win.
Prediction: PICK: Rangers
Full-Game Total Pick
The total has gone Under in the last five games between these teams and has also gone Under in four of the last five games between them in Boston. Those trends will continue in this game. The Boston lineup is struggling and with Lynn having a solid outing the Under is THE pick for this AL matchup.
Prediction: PICK: Under
