The Baltimore Orioles are looking to turn things around at home against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.

Blue Jays looking to get back on track

It hasn’t been the cleanest start to the year for the Blue Jays having stumbled to one of the worst marks in the majors through the first 67 games played as they are well under the .500 mark while sitting clear out of the AL East division race and the wildcard picture altogether. This has been a trend that they haven’t been able to shake by any means having dropped seven out of their last 10 games played in the process. Toronto has had a difficult time this season putting up runs on the board being one of the least productive offenses in the process. In fact, the Blue Jays are ranked 28th in runs scored, last in hits, 24th in home runs, last in batting average, and 28th in slugging percentage. However, they have had some bright spots on the team that include the strong play of rookie third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who has produced since being called up this season as he’s batting .255 with seven home runs and 17 runs batted in.

Guerrero Jr. has had his struggles along the way, but he has been one of their most promising bats in the lineup given his presence with his power in the middle of the order. He has been one of the lone offensive factors on the year despite the bumps along the way that he has experienced. The matchup against a struggling arm in Ynoa could be what he needs to break through once again to get back on track from his recent woes as he’s batting .211 in the last week. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are sending one of their most dependable arms to the mound with right-hander Marcus Stroman, who holds a 3-8 record with a 3.31 ERA. Stroman’s overall record should be taken with a grain of salt given the Blue Jays’ offensive issues on the year as he has been a strong factor as he had a streak of five games giving up three or fewer runs prior to his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With the matchup against the Orioles’ sluggish lineup, it should see him get back on track on the road.

Orioles sliding south fast

It has been nothing short of a disastrous start to the year for the Orioles currently holding one of the worst marks in the league through this point in the year. They have trouble finding any sort of significant footing as the season has worn on that has seen any hope of them making a serious push for the playoff go almost entirely out the window this early in the campaign as they sit well under the .500 mark currently being 20.5 games behind the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East. It has been equally as painful in the wildcard picture as they are 15 games behind the Texas Rangers for the second spot. The Orioles have been trending south over the last couple of years that has made them arguably the worst team in the majors over the span. Things don’t appear to be heading in the right direction any time soon as they have dropped seven out of their last 10 games played.

The Orioles offense has been nothing short of a non-factor as they currently ranked 26th in runs scored, 23rd in hits, 20th in home runs, 23rd in both batting average and slugging percentage. Baltimore hasn’t been able to find their way offensively at any point this year. This has alone been exemplary of the play from first baseman Chris Davis, who has been off to a career-worst start to the year hitting .164 with five home runs, and 18 RBI. He has almost entirely been unplayable for the team in their batting order due to his struggles offensively. In the last week, Davis is batting .167 with just two hits in his last 12 at-bats during that span. The Orioles will be sending right-hander Gabriel Ynoa to the mound, who holds a 0-2 record with a 4.96 ERA in 12 games played with three starts. Ynoa is coming off an outing where he gave up three runs on three hits with two home runs in six innings pitched. Given the Orioles’ struggles over the last week, it should continue at home on Thursday night.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

The Orioles have had plenty of struggles both on the mound and at the plate. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are sending one of their most dependable arms in Stroman to the bump. All of this has the reading of it being a contest that favors Toronto to come out on top.

Prediction: Toronto -130

Full-Game Total Pick

This is a matchup between two of the least productive offenses in the league. This should see runs come more at a premium in the contest. It should be noted that the under is 6-0-1 in Stroman’s last seven starts against the Orioles.

Prediction: Under 9
