New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox
Where and when: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois, Friday, 8:10 pm EST
A four-game set between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will continue on Friday night at 8:10 pm EST at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois. The Yankees were able to pick up a three-game series victory over Chicago earlier in the season.
The White Sox are inching closer and closer to overtaking the Cleveland Indians for the second-place slot within the AL Central division as they are only three games out, currently. They picked up a three-game series win over the Indians on June 2nd before losing their next three outings, including enduring a road sweep at the hands of the Washington Nationals. However, they have since gotten themselves back on the winning track in picking up wins in three of their last four outings. Furthermore, they were able to atone for their sweep versus the Nationals in rebounding from 12-1 loss in a two-game home set to pick up a 7-5 win to salvage the series on Wednesday night.
Entering this contest, Chicago has picked up wins in seven of their last nine games at Guaranteed Rate Field. However, they have dropped seven of their last nine games versus the Yankees, overall, while also being swept in their last meeting versus New York at home.
The Yankees continue to hold on to the top spot within the AL East as they are just a half-game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays. Furthermore, they have not won a series since their three-game series win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway at the beginning of the month. They have since dropped five of their last eight games as they suffered yet another loss, this time to the New York Mets in the finale of their Subway Series on Wednesday night, thus missing out on the sweep.
And while both the Yankees offense along with their pitching staff continues to rank high in the league in terms of runs scored per game (5.38) along with staff ERA (3.99). For game two, they will trot out CC Sabathia, who is looking to get back on track after losing two straight games.
Sabathia looks to end two-game skid
Despite Sabathia (3-3) hammering the strike zone this year with 48 strikeouts in a total of fifty-two innings in 2019, the left-hander has also been prone to give up homers this year as well in giving up fourteen in his last eight starts, overall. His ERA has ballooned to just under four, currently, after allowing eleven earned on twenty hits in his last three starts. However, Sabathia had a dominating outing versus the White Sox in his last matchup at Yankee Stadium on April 13th.

In this contest, he allowed just one hit in five innings of work as New York picked up the shutout, 4-0 win at home. On the other hand, as heavy favorites, New York fell to the White Sox at Yankee Stadium with Sabathia on the mound as he allowed three earned runs on five hits after pitching seven innings in a 4-3 defeat. Lastly, despite nine strikeouts, Sabathia fared much worse in his last start at Guaranteed Rate Field in his last outing (dating back to 2016), the left-hander picked up the loss after allowing five earned along with two homers in six innings in an 8-2 defeat.
Wellington Castillo (.300 on 10 AB) has had the most experience while facing Sabathia for the White Sox while James McCann (.182 on 11 AB) along with Jose Abreu is hitless versus the left-hander in eleven at bats with four strikeouts.
Giolito solid, yet, not versus Yankees lifetime
Fifth-year pitcher Lucas Giolito (9-1) has been ballin’ out on the mound this season and will look to win his eighth straight game versus a tough Yankees lineup in game two. His ERA remains one of the best in the league at 2.28 as he has recorded thirty-nine k’s in his last four starts in addition to giving up just three earned during this time. In fact, the right-hander has not allowed a run in his last two outings on the hill.

And while Giolito was able to pick up a win at Yankee Stadium earlier in the year, despite allowing four earned runs along with a homer in five innings for a 9-6 victory, he bombed in his only start versus New York at home in allowing seven earned along with two homers in a 7-3 loss in August of last year.
Giancarlo Stanton has a grand slam versus Giolito while DJ LeMahieu is 2-4 with two RBI’s lifetime.
- No trends to report
- NYY is 13-3 in their last 16 Fri. games.
- NYY is 30-12 in their last 42 games on grass.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
While Sabathia has struggled a bit versus the lineup for the White Sox recently, the fact is that Giolito has equally struggled in his short career versus New York. It is for this reason that I expect the Yankees, who have won sixteen of their last twenty-four road games, to rebound from a lackluster effort versus the Mets in their last time out to pick up a much-needed win. And while it will not be easy at the plate with Giolito continuing to pitch solidly, look for New York to obtain some effective at bats while tiring the pitcher over time to push some runs across the plate.
Prediction: Pick: New York Yankees -105
Full-Game Total Pick
Look for both teams to put some scores up in this contest as both pitchers have not been stellar against the opposing lineup, as pointed out. The over has been the play in four of Sabathia’s last five road games. On the other hand, with Giolito continuing to stink it up on the mound versus New York, look for the Over to be the strong play.
Prediction: Pick: Over 9
Full-Game Prop Bet
Look for this to be a competitive matchup from start to finish. As stated, you have two pitchers that will be looking to continue their recent success. And despite what has been a dominant Giolito coming to the hill for the White Sox, this game will be won (or lost) due to the play of the bullpen(s). The Yankees currently possess the slightly better unit as this will certainly keep them in the game as they will cover the run line at conclusion.
Prediction: Pick: New York Yankees +1.5
First Five Innings Side Pick
Despite Sabathia having a nightmare of an outing in his most recent trip to Guaranteed Rate Park, look for the veteran to rebound on Friday night as he will have a solid performance versus a team in the White Sox that has gained much momentum recently. On the other hand, the Yankees have also been on a roll of their own as they are attempting to fend off a feisty Tampa Bay Rays squad for first-place within the AL East. Look for the road team to hang around after five as I happen to see them taking a lead at the halfway mark, altogether.
Prediction: Pick: New York Yankees +0.5
First Five Innings Total Bet
With two solid pitchers on the mound for this matchup, one should not expect their to be many scoring opportunities early for either team. It is for this reason that one should look for the under to be the strong play after five innings as both Sabathia along with Giolito continues to shine in recent outings. Look for each to continue their success by confusing each lineup early while limiting contact at the plate.
Prediction: Pick: Under 5
First Five Innings Prop Prediction
I will back the Yankees to have a slight lead going into the sixth inning of what should be a very low-scoring, yet competitive contest on Saturday night. Of course, Giolito will remain composed despite giving up a run or two early while Sabathia will avenge a terrible outing on the road versus the White Sox as the Yankees will cash in on the money line, as a result.
Prediction: Pick: New York Yankees -115
