San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies

Where and when:  Coors Field, Denver, Colorado, Sunday, 3:10 pm EST

The San Diego Padres will play the finale of their four-game set versus NL West foe Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field in Denver Colorado.  San Diego was able to tie the series in game two after twelve innings of play thanks to a three-homer, five RBI performance from Hunter Renfroe.  Also, San Diego was able to recover from an 11-5 deficit to force extra innings while posting five in the 12th to tie the series at 1-1.

The loss halted a five-game skid for a team in the Padres that has had issues in winning with consistency.  They remain in fourth place within the division while closely pursuing both the third-place Arizona Diamondbacks along with the second-place Rockies.  However, they must be able to get more out of an offense that only bats just .236 while averaging a tad over four runs per game in 2019.

The Colorado Rockies, on the other hand, have not had many problems in scoring this year in averaging over five runs per outing.  Their offense, as opposed to the Padres, are batting a scorching .264 on the year as David Dahl (.330) has maintained his outstanding play in collecting five hits, a homer, along with four RBI’s versus the Padres.  Nolan Arenado leads the team in home runs with seventeen; Yet, the third-basemen had limited action in game two with only two at bats as the team wanted to provide some much-needed rest.

Nonetheless, whether its Dahl, Arenado, Charlie Blackmon (.323), or Trevor Story (.284), the Rockies have multiple bats that they can potentially rely on to change the entire outlook of a game.  They will now look to end their seven-game homestand in winning fashion on Sunday afternoon before hitting the road for a nine-game NL West road trip versus the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, along with the Giants.

Lambert solid in two starts for Rockies

Rookie Peter Lambert (2-0) will seek his third straight win for Colorado when he takes the mound on Sunday.  Each of his starts were versus the Chicago Cubs as he followed up a seven inning, one earned run performance at Wrigley Field in which the Rockies picked up a 3-1 victory, by pitching five innings while giving up one earned in a 10-3 victory at Coors Field on June 11th.

In all, for a pitching staff that ranks near the bottom of the league in terms of ERA (5.00), Lambert continues to possess great command of his fastball while racking up an ERA of just 1.50 since his debut on June 6th.  He will now face a Padres lineup ( that is batting just .232 on the year) for the first time in his young career. One can say that the Rockies may certainly have a leg up with Hudson on the mound as their opponent enters this matchup struggling at the plate while also being losers of five straight games.

Margevicius pulls the start for San Diego for the finale

Lambert will be opposed by Rookie Nick Margevicius (2-6) for the Padres, as he will be looking for his first win since April 23rd, a 6-3 home win over the Seattle Mariners.  Since this victory, he has had two no-decisions along with four losses, as he picked up a no-decision in his last outing on June 7th versus the Washington Nationals at home, despite pitching just 3.⅔ innings while giving up only three hits in a 5-4 win.  The victory halted a three-game stretch to where the club went winless with Margevicius on the mound.

And while the left-hander has not fared well in recent outing, he has not allowed a home run in his last two starts.  This type of effort was a huge improvement after the rookie allowed a total of eight during a four-game span stretching from the end of April until the middle of May.  Unfortunately for Padres fans, the left-hander has faced the Rockies twice this season both at home as well as at Coors Field to where he gave up five earned runs in a total of nine innings for each contest while surrendering two homers in a 10-7 loss on May 12th at Coors Field.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Look for the Rockies to end their four-game set versus the Padres on a winning note as they are always a dangerous team at Coors Field.  Also, Arenado should be back in the lineup on Sunday as well, giving the team yet another big bat that will tee off on a sometimes shaky Margevicius.

Prediction: Pick:  Colorado Rockies -150

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

I will strongly back the over as the Rockies are offensive aces on their home field.  Look for them to take advantage of faulty pitching for the Padres in what will be a high-scoring affair throughout.  And while the Padres will put some runs on the board, look for the Rockies to pull away at some point en route to the win.

Prediction: Pick: Over 13

Full-Game Prop Bet
Rating:

The Rockies clearly have much of the momentum in this series.  Combine this with the fact that they always seem to light it up at the plate in a predominantly offensive ball park, look for Colorado to light up the scoreboard en route to a series win over the off-and-on Padres.

Prediction: Pick: Colorado Rockies -1.5

First Five Innings Side Pick
Rating:

Again, I will back the Rockies to take an advantage early while also maintaining this lead after five frames to cash in on the run line. Margevicius has struggled mightily versus the Rockies lineup in two matchups this season.  Furthermore, with Colorado seeking to continue its winning ways, one should look for the home team to pull out all the stops versus their division foe while ending the set on an outstanding note.

Prediction: Pick: Colorado Rockies -0.5

First Five Innings Total Bet
Rating:

Margevicius allowed multiple runs in two outings versus Colorado.  And with the Rockies continuing to pursue the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West, look for them to enter this mathup focused on the task at hand, which is to pick up a much-needed win while relying on their young pitcher to continue his success on the mound, as well, in just his third start of the year.

Prediction: Pick: Over 7.5

First Five Innings Prop Prediction
Rating:

Colorado will jump out with an early lead versus the Padres in this contest thanks to lingering inconsistencies on the mound by the pitching staff for the visitors.  With that being the case, take the home Rockies through five innings on the run line for this contest as Blackmon and company will continue to pound the baseball on a Padres team that cannot seem to maintain any type of offensive momentum.

Prediction: Pick: Colorado Rockies -171
