The Chicago White Sox will be looking for another win as they take on the Boston Red Sox this Wednesday. The White Sox are currently 36-41 after losing to the Red Sox in their last game. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 44-37 after beating the White Sox in their last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records in this game.
White Sox Look To Inch Closer To .500
The Chicago White Sox have won 36 of their first 77 games. However, the team is still in third place in the AL Central as the team has looked a lot better over the past few weeks prior to this series. In this series, the White Sox have lost the first two games and will be looking to get back on track with a win on Wednesday. Now, the White Sox will turn to Reynaldo Lopez as the starting pitcher for this contest. He has been awful with a 4-7 record this season along with a 6.23 ERA. He went less than six innings and gave up three runs in his last start.

The Chicago White Sox are led by first baseman Jose Abreu who has struggled a bit last season. Last season, Abreu suffered a massive drop in power as he only hit 22 home runs along with 78 RBIs. This was especially surprising considering the fact that he had at least 100 RBIs in each of the previous four seasons. However, is appears that last year’s struggles have not carried over as Abreu currently has 18 home runs with 55 RBIs through the team’s first 77 games.
Red Sox Look To Get Another Home Win
The Boston Red Sox are currently in third place in the AL East division as the team has only won 44 of its first 81 games. The main reason for the team’s struggles has been the team’s inability to win at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are currently a disappointing 20-19 at home this season and will be looking to get stay over .500 with a win in this one. However, the Red Sox have won the first two games of this series at home against the White Sox and will be looking for a sweep with a victory in this game. For Wednesday’s game, the Red Sox will hand the ball to starter Chris Sale who has been awful this season. So far, in his first 16 starts, Sale is 3-7 with a 3.59 ERA. If the Red Sox plan on winning this game, he will need to pitch a lot better.

The Boston Red Sox are led by outfielder Mookie Betts who was unbelievable last season. Last season, Betts hit 32 home runs along with 80 RBIs as he was rightfully named the AL MVP Award winner. However, Betts is also a fantastic contact hitter as his batting average has never been below .264 in his entire career. So far this season, Betts has 13 home runs and 36 RBIs in the team’s first 81 games. Betts also went 1-4 yesterday but did manage to score a run.
- Red Sox are 9-1 in Sale’s last 10 Wednesday starts.
- Red Sox are 15-2 in Sale’s last 17 starts during game 3 of a series.
- White Sox are 0-4 in Lopez’s last 4 starts vs. American League East.
- White Sox are 1-5 in their last 6 road games vs. a left-handed starter.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Simply put, Boston is the better of these two teams by a wide margin and is in much better form than Chicago at this point in time. The Red Sox have been average at home this season while the White Sox have been awful on the road so far this season. Plus, Sale is significantly better than Lopez and he should pitch well against his former team in this one. I expect this game to be close for a little while but I think the Red Sox will do enough to get the victory.
Prediction: Boston Red Sox
Full-Game Total Pick
Since both of these teams possess below average pitching staffs, I have to lean to the over in this game. Lopez has also been awful this season so I would not be surprised to see him struggle again in this one. Furthermore, both teams still possess inconsistent bullpens and very solid lineups so I can see both teams scoring at least four runs. I can see this game being somewhere in the realm of 7-4 so I will recommend the over in this game.
Prediction: Over 9
