Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants
MLB: Friday June 28, 2019 at 10:15 PM EST
After a six-game losing streak the Diamondbacks rebounded by winning three of their next four games. They are hovering around .500, but that will not cut it in the NL West where the L.A. Dodgers have the best record in MLB and are running away with the division. Arizona has not had much success against the Giants losing four of their first six games facing them. However, all those games were at home where the club is a few games under .500 while a few games over .500 on the road. While well out of the division race they are in the heart of the battle for one of the NL Wild Card slots.
Things just keep getting worse for the Giants, who are in the basement of the NL West and are nearly 20 games out of first place. While they have recently lost three of four games in the series before their last one, they took two of three games from the Diamondbacks where they totaled 18 runs in the two wins. That offensive outburst has been few and far between for San Francisco, who rank near the bottom of the pack in the Majors in runs scored.
Kelly looks for 3rd straight solid start against the Giants
Merrill Kelly (7-7 3.93 ERA) gets the start in this game and he has pitched well in two starts against the Giants, which were both Arizona wins. He only gave up two runs in the two starts totaling 11 1/3 innings and he faced them in his last start giving up two runs on four hits in six innings in a 3-2 Diamondbacks win. Arizona has won four of his last five starts and his last two starts were at home. Kelly has only allowed more than two runs in one of his last five starts.
Ketel Marte leads the Diamondbacks in batting average and HR and after breaking a franchise record with seven straight multi-hit games he had two hits in the next game. He is batting over .400 in the month of June and in a recent nine game stretch is 22 for 34.

In the one series between these teams in San Francisco earlier this season Arizona swept the Giants outscoring them 34-8.
Anderson has another go at the D-Backs
Shaun Anderson (2-2 3.94 ERA) gets the nod in this game and has his 2nd straight start facing the Diamondbacks. He opposed Kelly in his last start in the 3-2 Giants loss where he gave up two runs in six innings. He has lost both of his starts against Arizona this season totaling 11 innings and giving up six runs. San Francisco has lost three of Anderson’s last four starts including his last two where he has given up five runs in 11 2/3 innings. Not only are the Giants 4-1 in Anderson’s last five starts in Game 2 of a series they are 4-1, overall, in Game 2’s.
Pablo Sandoval and Kevin Pillar are the only players for the Giants in double-digits in HR with 10 each and Pillar leads the team in batting average and RBI, but is only hitting .245 and only has 37 HR. Former MVP Buster Posey has struggled this season only batting .234 and he is only hitting .162 in June.
The San Francisco Giants are:
- 7-17 in their last 24 home games vs. a team with a winning road record
The Arizona Diamondbacks are:
- 7-3 in their last 10 road games
- 5-2 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing record
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The road team has been the solid bet in the games between these teams this season and there is no reason to go away from that trend. The Diamondbacks have rebounded from a tough stretch to get back on track and this game will be just like the last matchup when the two starters in this game faced each other. It will be a low scoring affair with each hurler having a solid outing and the Diamondbacks will come out on top and get the win.
Prediction: PICK: Diamondbacks
Full-Game Total Pick
In the last game where Kelly opposed Anderson the Diamondbacks won in a low scoring 3-2 game. That game will be much like that one, as both starters will pitch well in a low scoring affair. In the 2nd game of this series the Under is the money pick.
Prediction: PICK: Under
