Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies MLB: Saturday July 13, 2019 at 8:10 PM EST While the Reds are under .500 and in the basement of the NL Central there is still hope for them in the 2nd half. They are only a few games out of first place in the tight division, so they not only have a shot in the 2nd half at winning the division, but also snagging a Wild Card. However, they lost their last two games before the break where they were outscored 18-3. Giving up that many runs has not happened a lot this season, as Cincy ranks 3rd in MLB in team ERA, but they only rank 28th in runs scored. The Rockies had to be happy for the break, as they lost six in a row before it. While the club is led by their offense, they only totaled six runs in the four losses before the All Star break. While having a better record than the Reds they are over 13 games out of first place in the NL West and the Wild Card may be their only hopes of making the post-season. No shock the main issue in Colorado this season, and for the last several, has been their pitching which only ranks 28th in the Majors in team ERA. This is the first series between these teams this season.
Roark looks to get to .500
Tanner Roark (5-6 3.51 ERA) goes for the Reds and looks to get to the .500 mark with a win in this game and his last outing was not a great one. He gave up four runs, including giving up three HR, on six hits in six 2/3 innings, but the lineup and bullpen helped out in a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. After losing three of his starts in a row the Reds have won two of his last three outings and in the three starts previous to his last one he gave up four runs in 18 1/3 innings of work. Cincy has won five of Roark’s last seven road starts. Yasiel Puig has had a decent first season with the Reds with 20 HR and 51 RBI and before the All Star break, he had a five-game hitting streak going where he was 10 for 19 with three HR and six RBI. Eugenio Suarez is tied with Puig the most HR for the club and leads them in RBI and after a torrid three-game stretch with four HR and nine RBI he did not go deep or have any RBI in his last four games before the break.
Freeland looks to turn things around
Kyle Freeland (2-6 7.13 ERA) gets the nod in this game for the Rockies and looks to turn things around after a less than stellar first half. Colorado won his last start despite him giving up five runs in only three innings in an 11-10 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Freeland has given up 12 runs in only seven innings of work in his last two starts. However, Colorado has won 16 of his last 21 home starts and they have won 10 of his last 14 starts facing a team with a losing record. Charlie Blackmon leads the Rockies in both batting average and HR and while he went without a hit in his last three games before the break he did go yard in the All Star game. https://twitter.com/Rockies/status/1149023229396377601 Colorado stumbled losing their last six games before the break, but they have won 15 of their last 20 home games against a team with a losing record.
The Colorado Rockies are:
- 15-5 in their last 20 home games vs. a team with a losing record
- 35-17 in their last 52 home games vs. a right-handed starter
The Cincinnati Reds are:
- 0-4 in their last 4 road games
- 1-5 in their last 6 vs. a team with a losing record
- 25-52 in their last 77 road games vs. a left-handed starter
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Rockies stumbled before the break and Freeland has been lit up in his last two starts. However, the losses for the club before the break were to teams with a winning record, which the Reds do not have. Freeland may not have the best of outings, but the lineup will help him out getting to Raork early and often. Take Colorado to win this game at home where they have been solid against teams with a losing record.
Prediction: PICK: Rockies
Full-Game Total Pick
The Rockies lineup struggled before the break, but back at home they will have a good game at the dish. They will get to Raork in this game chasing him early and Freeland will not have the best outing either. In a game that will be far from a pitcher’s duel the Over is the money pick.
Prediction: PICK: Over
