Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Indians Where and when: Progressive Park, Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday, 7:10 pm EST The Minnesota Twins will continue their three-game series versus the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Park in Cleveland, Ohio, as game-two will begin on Saturday at 7:10 pm EST.
The Indians have won five of seven versus the top-seeded Twins at Progressive Park as they seek to gain some ground in the division with another victory. Cleveland will also look to continue their onslaught at the plate during this series as they enter the contest winners of their last six games.
During this time, their offense, which has been hit or miss all season, has really stepped things up in averaging almost seven runs per outing during their current streak. Of course, with Cleveland ranking well within the top ten in all pitching categories, one can certainly expect the Indians to bring the focus and intensity to cut into Minnesota’s slim lead within the AL Central division.
Minnesota, on the other hand, limped into the All-Star break in dropping three-game sets to the Chicago White Sox along with the Oakland Athletics before picking up a series victory over the Texas Rangers in their last time out. Their offense remains as one of the best in the league with Jorge Polanco continuing to lead the way after an impressive performance during the All-Star festivities. It is important to note, however, that three of the last four road sets for the Twins have resulted in defeat, including a three-game road series versus the Indians in early June.
Bauer solid in recent outings
Trevor Bauer (8-6) will come to the mound for the Indians in game-two not only looking for his fourth quality outing, but, also his fourth straight win. He is coming off an outing to where he allowed just one earned run on four hits over seven innings of pitching in an 11-1 road demolishing of the Cincinnati Reds on July 7th. And while the win marked his fourth straight road victory, Bauer finally halted a five-game winless streak at Progressive Park in his last outing versus the Kansas City Royals in a 5-3 win on June 26th in giving up just one earned run on five hits.
Jorge Polanco is batting just .231 versus Bauer in his respective career; Yet, he has two doubles, a triple, three homers, along with five RBI’s. Nelson Cruz is batting .500 on fourteen at bats with a double, a homer, along with four RBI’s. On the other hand, Byron Buxton, Mitch Garver, along with Miguel Sano are a combined 6-49 versus Bauer, lifetime. Bauer took the loss at Progressive on June 6th after allowing five earned along with three homers in a 5-4 defeat.
Odorrizi looking to end horrible streak versus Indians
Jake Odorizzi (10-4) reached double-digit wins on June 15th versus the Kansas City Royals despite allowing four earned runs along with two homers in a 5-4 home win. He quickly followed this outing up with a four-inning debacle on June June 20th to where he allowed another four earned to the struggling Royals in a 4-1 loss at Progressive Park. The right-hander allowed only a homer to the Indians earlier in the season while recording eleven k’s in six innings of pitching in a 2-1 loss.
Odorizzi has picked up losses in three of his last five starts at Progressive. He has had his fair share of issues in facing Jose Ramirez along with Francisco Lindor as they each have two home runs off the right-hander in a total of thirty-five at-bats in addition to eight RBI’s. Jason Kipnis also has three doubles versus Odorizzi in fourteen at-bats.
- CLE is 19-7 in their last 26 overall.
- CLE is 19-7 in their last 26 games on grass.
- CLE is 7-3 in Bauer’s last 10 starts vs. MIN.
- MIN is 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Cleveland.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Look for the Indians to chip away at the Twins lead in the division while taking game two on Saturday. Bauer has been solid for the Indians and has had decent success versus the presently struggling Twins lineup. In all, Cleveland simply plays better versus Minnesota at Progressive Park as they will find a way to win a low-scoring and competitive affair in the end.
Prediction: Pick: Cleveland Indians
Full-Game Total Pick
And while Odorizzi has struggled versus some of the bit bats for the Indians, he will attempt to start the second half of his season on a winning note in game two. Bauer, as stated, has been lights out in his last few starts. With that being said, look for the under to be the strong play versus two pitchers that are very familiar with each other’s lineup.
