Washington Nationals vs. Baltimore Orioles
MLB: Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 7:05 PM EST
The Nationals had won four in a row and their first two games after the All Star break before suffering a loss recently where they gave up a HR in the bottom of the 9th inning. They are in 2nd place in the NL East several games back of the Atlanta Braves, but are in the lead in the NL Wild Card race. While Washington only ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of team ERA their pitching has been solid as of late only allowing nine runs in a recent five-game stretch.
Things keep going badly for the lowly Orioles and while they did win their first game after the break they lost their next two being outscored 16-5. They have struggled at the dish and on the mound, have the most losses in MLB, and they are tied with the Detroit Tigers for the fewest home wins in baseball. On top of that they have lost 16 of their last 21 interleague home games.
Coming into this series the Nats have taken seven of eight games from the Orioles.
The Nationals have been balanced on the season ranking near the middle of the pack in both runs scored and team ERA. Their lineup has not been great as of late, but their pitching has and for this game a starter has not been named at time of writing. All Star Anthony Rendon leads the club in batting average, HR, and RBI and he has recently hit safely in five straight games and in the last two games of the last series he had two hits in each game. Juan Soto ranks 2nd on the team in RBI and is batting over .300 on the season and in July has gone deep twice and is batting over .330.he was the hero of a game in the last series hitting a go-ahead two run HR in the 9th.

Coming into this series Washington has lost seven of their last 10 interleague road games, but they have won their last six Wednesday games.
Brooks gets 2nd start for new club
Aaron Brooks (2-3 5.01 ERA) gets the nod in this game for the Orioles and makes his 2nd start for them after being with the Oakland A’s. He only lasted two 2/3 innings in his first start for Baltimore but did not give up any runs or any hits in a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Brooks was used primarily out of the bullpen in Oakland after struggling as a starter early in the season. This will be his first appearance of the season facing the Nationals.
Trey Mancini led the Orioles in batting average for much of the season but comes into this series hitless in 24 straight at bats. The Orioles come into this series losing 15 of their last 18 interleague games facing a team with a winning record and losing five straight interleague games at home facing a winning team.
The Baltimore Orioles are:
The Washington Nationals are:
- 0-5 in their last 5 vs. American League East
- 3-7 in their last 10 interleague road games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Nats have lost seven of their last 10 interleague road games and all those games came facing teams with a losing record. Hard to take the Orioles in any game, but Brooks was solid in his first start for the team, albeit a short one, and he will pitch well in this game. Baltimore has value in this game with Brooks on the hill and the Orioles will win a close and low scoring game.
Prediction: PICK: Orioles
Full-Game Total Pick
In six of the last seven games between these teams, the total has gone Under and that has been the pick in 14 of the last 18 games between them in Baltimore as well. Look for those trends to continue in this game, especially since the Washington lineup has not been great in the last several games. In Game 2 of this interleague series, the Under is the pick.
Prediction: PICK: Under
