Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Indians
MLB: Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 7:10 PM EST
The Royals have had a tough season, but they have been hot as of late recently winning four in a row and six of their last seven games. Their lineup has been solid and in their recent three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox, they totaled 24 runs. While KC has been hot, they are still tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the 3rd fewest wins in the AL.
The Indians are also hot recently winning five in a row and 11 of their last 13 games. With their play as of late, they have climbed closer to Minnesota in the AL Central now only trailing them by a few games and are also in the lead for the AL Wild Card. Just before the All-Star break, they swept the Royals on the road in a three-game set outscoring them 21-9.
Junis has not pitched well against the Tribe
Jakob Junis (5-8 5.08 ERA) gets the nod for the Royals in this game and has not pitched well against Cleveland this season. KC did win his first start of the season against them, but gave up five runs, but lost the last two facing them and in the three starts against them he has totaled 16 2/3 innings and gave up 15 runs. The Royals had lost four in a row with Junis on the hill, including two losses to the Indians, but he had a good last start going seven innings and only giving up one run on five hits in a 5-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Jorge Soler leads the Royals in HR and RBI, recently had a three-RBI game, and is batting over .330 this month. Whit Merrifield leads the team in batting average and has been red hot this month hitting .415.
Plutko has not been sharp since good outing against KC
Adam Plutko (3-1 5.40 ERA) has struggled in his last two starts after having a good one against Kansas City in a Cleveland win. He has given up five runs in each of his last starts and gave up three HR in his last outing where the Indians’ lineup bailed him out in an 8-6 win. In Plutko’s only start against the Royals this season on June 24th he gave up one run in four innings in a 3-2 Cleveland win. The Indians have won five of his last six home starts.
Jose Ramirez recently went deep for the Indians and has six RBI in a recent four-game stretch and while batting under .240 for the season he is batting nearly .350 this month.
The Cleveland Indians are:
- 21-7 in their last 28 overall
- 5-2 in their last 7 Saturday games
- 5-0 in their last 5 home games
The Kansas City Royals are:
- 1-10 in their last 11 Saturday games
- 21-52 in their last 73 road games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
While Plutko has not pitched well in his last two starts he did that in his lone start against the Royals this season. Junis has struggled in his three starts against the Indians this season and look for that to continue in this game. The Cleveland lineup will be the difference maker in this game, which will see a lot of runs and the Tribe will stay hot and get the W.
Prediction: PICK: Indians
Full-Game Total Pick
The total has gone Under in Junis’ last four road starts against the Indians, but that trend will not continue. Both starters in this game will get hit hard, especially Junis, who has given up nearly a run an inning in his three starts against Cleveland this season. This will be far from a pitcher’s duel, so the Over is the way to go in this AL Central matchup.
Prediction: PICK: Over
