Seattle Mariners (72-73) at Texas Rangers (72-72)
MLB: Wednesday, September 13, 8:05 PM EST at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
The Line: Texas Rangers -105
The Seattle Mariners gear up for game 3 from the Globe Life Park in Arlington against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday evening. Listed starters: Martin Perez for the Rangers and Mike Leake for the Mariners.
Mariners bounce back forcefully
The Seattle Mariners quickly responded to their series-opening loss to the Texas Rangers with an offensive show to come out trumps 10-3 in game 2. The win pushed the Mariners to within one win of 0.500 (currently 72-73 for the season).
“I thought we did get after it,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “It’s too late if you wait till there’s five or six games left so you’ve got to win them all. Our guys are focused.”
The Mariners have an ERA of 4.45 (14th) and a WHIP of 1.32 (12th) with a BAA of .254 (13th overall). They also have 57 quality starts.
Rangers fall back to 0.500
After a clinical 5-3 win in the series opener, the Texas Rangers were comprehensively beaten in game 2, pushing them back to 0.500 for the season (72-72). Miguel Gonzalez allowed seven runs and seven hits, and also managed just seven outs.
“Seems like most everything is one-sided for him right now, allowing hitters to eliminate one side of the plate,” manager Jeff Banister said.
The Rangers’ strength through the season has been their batting. They have hit 741 runs (4th) with a slugging percentage of .443 (6th) with an on-base percentage of .327 (16th overall).
Seattle Mariners are:
- 1-4 in their last 5 during game 3 of a series.
- 1-6 in their last 7 road games.
- 1-6 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Texas Rangers are:
- 6-1 in their last 7 Wednesday games.
- 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss.
The Rangers’ batting doesn’t fail too often. They weren’t on top of their game in the second match-up, but should find their stride to help the Rangers take this one.
The Pick: Texas Rangers
