Orioles vs. Blue Jays, 9-13-2017 - Prediction & Preview
Written by: Joseph Phelan
Baltimore Orioles (71-74) at Toronto Blue Jays (68-77)
When and Where: Wednesday, September 13 at 7:07 p.m. ET at Camden Yards in Baltimore, MD
Line: Toronto -120
The O’s have lost six straight games, including the first two against the Blue Jays in this series. Toronto, meanwhile, has won four straight games after dropping three straight games.
The O’s were right in wild card contention just a couple weeks ago, but they have struggled lately. Baltimore has lost eight of its last 11 game. Baltimore’s offense ranks tied for 10th in baseball in runs scored. The O’s had one of the better months of August but they haven’t been able to carry over that success in September.
Gausman has had a rough go of it this season. He’s been super inconsistent. He’s 10-10 with a 4.99 ERA in 30 starts. He had back-to-back starts allowing zero earned runs a couple starts ago, but he followed up that performance allowing five earned runs in only three innings in a loss. He did pitch well the last time he faced the Blue Jays.
Five Straight Wins?
The Blue Jays have an opportunity to win their fifth straight game Wednesday night. It’s been a miserable season for Toronto, so any success would be greeted kindly. Toronto’s offense ranks 26th in runs scored. The offense, one of the most feared in previous years, just hasn’t brought it this season. Toronto has gotten it done with solid pitching in the last week, though.
Stroman has been awesome for the most part this season. He’s 11-7 with a 3.18 ERA on the season in 29 starts. Stroman has thrown two complete games. Stroman did allow four earned runs in a loss to Detroit in his last start. Stroman, over his last seven starts, has allowed two or fewer runs five times.
- Orioles are 3-8 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
- Orioles are 7-20 in their last 27 road games.
- Blue Jays are 6-0 in their last 6 Wednesday games.
- Blue Jays are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 3 of a series.
The Blue Jays have an advantage at the pitching position because of how uncertain Gausman has been this season. Stroman has been way more consistent, while the O’s offense has struggled recently.
Pick: Toronto -120
