Pittsburgh and Milwaukee will end their three-game set on Wednesday night at Miller Park. The Pirates took the first game of the series 7-0 and spoiled the Brewers’ return home after sweeping the Chicago Cubs. Pittsburgh now won in five of the last seven meetings.
Glasnow makes return to the starting rotation
Pittsburgh brings up players after Triple-A ball has completed, including starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow returning to a spot in the rotation. He’ll be replacing Trevor Williams who was originally scheduled to start in this matchup. Lefty reliever Dan Runzler will also be in the bullpen, who features a 1-4 record with seven saves and a 3.05 ERA.
Starting pitcher: Right-hander Tyler Glasnow (2-6, 7.45 ERA)
Glasnow suffered a third consecutive loss against Miami and has been out of the starting rotation since June 9th. This will be his first start since then and 13th of the season. In those latest three starts, he gave up a whopping 16 combined runs. He also allowed five homers over his last two starts. The Pirates also suffered six losses in his latest seven starts, which is the reason why he got the boot into triple-A.
Brewers can’t maintain momentum from Cubs sweep
Milwaukee got pummeled in the series opener, 7-0, and only had three hits in the game. It was an awful return after having so much momentum from sweeping the Chicago Cubs. “There was not much good that happened,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said after the game. “It was a frustrating day. There was never any point where we got anything good started.”
Starting pitcher: Right-hander Chase Anderson (9-3, 2.93 ERA)
Anderson had a victory against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, and he’ll be participating in this contest on just three days of rest. He can do that because of a limited showing in what eventually was a 15-2 blowout win. He gave up just one hit through five innings and threw 67 total pitches. He had five strikeouts to one walk. Perhaps the team pulled him early knowing they would put Anderson back in earlier with Jimmy Nelson now out for the rest of the season.
- 5-0 on the Under in their last 5 games against teams with a winning record
- 12-4-1 on the Under in their last 17 games overall
- 4-1 on the Under in their last 5 games at home
- 5-2-1 on the Under in their lats 8 games against teams with a losing record
The lines aren’t out at the time of this preview as Milwaukee’s selection of Anderson came recently. Since they’ll likely be favored in a big way, go with the under as both teams have struggled scoring in recent contests.
