When and Where: Wednesday, September 13 at 1:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field in New York, NY

Line: Tampa Bay -117

Total: 8.5

New York has won four of its previous six games, while the Rays have lost four of their previous six games. Tampa Bay will start Chris Archer. Jaime Garcia gets the nod for New York.

Big Lead in the Wild Card

The Yankees have a three-game advantage over the Twins for the first wild card spot. New York has played really well lately, but it blew a terrific start from Sonny Gray Tuesday night. New York’s offense ranks second in baseball in runs scored. New York has a tough matchup against Archer.

Garcia is 5-9 with a 4.43 ERA on the season. He’s been on three teams this year, posting an 0-2 record in five starts with the Yankees. In those five starts, Garcia allowed three or fewer earned runs in four of them. Garcia will face the Blue Jays for the first time.

Archer has been solid this year. He’s 9-9 with a 4.00 ERA on the season in 30 starts. Archer has mostly been terrific, but he did struggle in his last start. Archer allowed six earned runs in only three innings against the Red Sox. The last time Archer faced the Yankees was at the end of July. He allowed three earned runs over six innings in a no decision.

The Rays offense has struggled over the last few weeks. The team sits four games back of a wild card spot, but the team’s highly unlikely to make a run. Tampa Bay’s led by Corey Dickerson and Logan Morrison. Tampa Bay ranks 25th in baseball in runs scored.

  • Yankees are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. American League East.
  • Yankees are 9-3 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Rays are 1-4 in their last 5 overall.

Archer vs. Garcia could be a really good pitching matchup. The Yankees have the advantage because of their offensive dominance at times. But the Yankees have struggled at times in the second half of the season. New York, however, continues to play well in the most important games of the season.

Pick: New York +117
