The Boston Red Sox arrive in South Florida following a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays in which Boston was 2-2. Although Boston played well against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, the Red Sox remain in last place in the American League East 13 ½ games behind Tampa Bay. Boston has produced poorly at both the plate and on the mound and big changes are needed during the upcoming offseason.
The Miami Marlins are in the thick of qualifying for a postseason berth. Miami is in second place in the National League East just 2 ½ games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves. Miami is coming off a series in which they played 7 games against the Philadelphia Phillies winning five of the seven including the last three straight to leapfrog the Phillies into second place.
Boston's hitters are the only bright spot on the clubBoston has won just 17 of its 38 games thus far this season but the batting order cannot be blamed. Boston started the season without its best hitter from last season Mookie Betts but the hitters have produced even though JD Martinez has disappeared from the radar. Martinez was one of the best hitters for the Red Sox last season but this season is hitting just .205 with four homers and 19 RBIs. However, Boston has the sixth-best team batting average at .264 and the seventh-best slugging percentage at .449. Supplying that power and those numbers is Alex Verdugo with a team-high .311 batting average, Xander Bogaerts with a team-high 10 home runs and Rafael Devers with a team-high 32 RBIs.
The Boston pitching staff has been one of the worst all season and that's not too surprising after trading David Price and losing Chris Sale to injury. Boston has the worst team ERA in all of baseball at 6.12, the worst WHIP at 1.66 and opposing hitters are averaging .287 at the plate against Boston pitching which is the worst in baseball as well. The Red Sox have not yet announced their starting pitcher for Wednesday's encounter against Miami.
Miami continues to surprise baseball pundantsThe Miami Marlins are proving doubters wrong as they continue to battle for a playoff berth in the National League. Miami has won three straight and five of its last seven to move into second place in the National League East. At the plate, the Marlins are led by first baseman Jesus Aguilar who has a team-high.295 batting average and is leading in RBIs with 29. The Marlins don't hit much for power as the home run leader is Corey Dickerson with just six and the slugging percentage is 23rd best in baseball .391, but the team batting average is .247 which is 13th best.

On the mound, Miami continues to improve although opposing hitters are still banging out hits against Marlins pitching as Miami is allowing them to hit for an average .254 which is 24th in baseball, However, Miami's 4.71 team ERA is 18th best in baseball and the starting rotation is tied for 11th with 13 Quality Starts. Pablo Lopez is leading Miami in wins with four, strikeouts with 46 and has the best ERA for starting pitchers at 4.02. Miami sends Trevor Rogers to the mound on Wednesday. The lefthander this season is 1-1 with a 6.50 ERA in four starts. Miami is 2-2 in the last four starts for Rogers.
- Miami has won four of the last five overall
- The Marlins have won four of the last five at home

Full-Game Side Bet
Miami is battling for a playoff berth, while Boston has one foot outside its Clubhouse door already looking toward the 2020-21 season. The Marlins have not had much success against Boston losing 19 of the last 26 games but this season is far different, as the Marlins have won four of the last five at home, four the last five overall and 39 of the last 54 when playing at home as the favorite. Boston, on the other hand, has the worst team ERA in baseball at 6.12 and has lost four of the last five against an interleague opponent when tagged as the underdog.
Prediction: Miami Marlins -135
Full-Game Total Pick
Boston has a team ERA of 6.12, which is the worst in baseball and it's not surprising that four of Boston's last six interleague games have finished over and 6 of the Red Sox last eight games overall have finished over. The total has also gone over in nine of Miami's last 13 overall, four of the last five the Marlins have played at home against Boston and in five of the last seven overall between the Marlins and Red Sox
