We have the National League West to consider for Thursday evening when the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies meet for game one of a four-game scheduled series. The Dodgers are first in the National League West and the Rockies enter this series as the fourth-place team looking to catch the third-place San Francisco Giants.

This preview was written prior to the start of Wednesday MLB contests and all opinions are based on Tuesday night MLB action.

Dodgers First in NL West

Los Angeles enters this series with a 2.5 game lead over the San Diego Padres and enters play on Wednesday hoping to continue a one-game winning streak. The Dodgers have won five of its last ten games and have a road record of 18-7. Outfielder Mookie Betts leads the Dodgers with 15 dingers and a team-high 35 RBI.

The Dodgers bats rank eleventh with a .253 team batting average and the arms rank number one with a 2.98 team ERA over 440.2 innings pitched.

Los Angeles is undecided as to who will pitch this game but whoever does is up against a Rockies offense with a 24 percent strikeout rate and .161 ISO over 1787 plate appearances this season.

Rockies Slim Playoff Hopes

The Rockies are trying to keep their slim playoff hopes alive and enters Wednesday riding a one-game winning streak but has lost six of its past ten games. Colorado is eleven games behind the Dodgers in the standings and has a home record of 11-14. Infielder Trevor Story leads the Rockies with ten bombs and outfielder Charlie Blackmon has a team-leading 37 RBI this season.

The Colorado offense ranks eighth with a .258 team batting average and the arms are the twenty-eighth best pitching staff with a team ERA of 5.40 over 416.1 innings pitched.

Colorado is undecided as to who will pitch this game but whoever does is up against a Dodgers offense with a 21 percent strikeout rate and .216 ISO over 1890 plate appearances this season.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

This is going to be good opening night for this series. The Dodgers have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball and the offense is darn good. The Rockies offense is top ten and the pitching staff has struggled mightily this season. Los Angeles has figured out how to win on the road and Colorado is below .500 at Coors Field. I will be taking the Dodgers in this one.

Prediction: Dodgers

Full-Game Total Pick

Vegas hasn’t posted a total yet but we can assume that number will be a high one. I expect the Dodgers to score a few runs in the light air and we can safely say the Rockies love to hit at home. The Dodgers pitching staff is too good from top to bottom and I don’t expect the Rockies to blast away. Colorado pitching has been awful but they know how to pitch in Coors and I will take the UNDER in this game!

Prediction: Under
