Major League Baseball action on Sunday afternoon and we will see a pair of teams from the National League East square off as the Washington Nationals grapple with the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. This will be game two of a DH and game five of their five-game series. The Marlins took two of the first three games.
The Nats Continue To PlummetThe Washington Nationals are about to go from World Series Champs all the way down to finishing in the basement of the National League East. Washington never got going in this shortened season and basically, they are just playing out the string at this point. The Nats started the year at 4-4 and they had a three-game winning streak within those eight games. Since then, they have gone 15-27 and have not won more than two games in a row over that stretch.
Washington did take game one of this series with the Marlins by a 5-0 score but then they fell 14-3 and 7-3 in their next two games. On Saturday, they were led by Andrew Stevenson, who had a hit and two RBIs in the contest. this has not been a very good offense as Washington is 18th in scoring at 4.60 rpg. The pitching has been the bigger issue as the Nats are 26th in ERA at 5.33 rpg, compared to finishing 13th in ERA a year ago at 4.27. Taking the loss on Saturday was Patrick Corbin, who allowed seven ERs on 14 hits in 6.0 innings of work to fall to 2-6 with a 4.76 ERA on the year. The Nats will be sending out Ben Braymer, who has just two games under his MLB belt and he has a 3,86 ERA in 2.1 innings of work in those games.
Marlins Are Swimming Towards A Playoff BerthIn the last few years, the Miami Marlins have been among the worst teams in the league but they have been quietly stockpiling talent and that talent has begun to show. Miami comes into this game having won seven of their last 10 games to pull to within just 2.5 games of Atlanta in the National League East. They also have a half a game lead of the Phillies, who are in 3rd place. the Marlins are looking very good at the moment but we do note that after today, Miami has four road games against Miami, followed by three road games against the Yankees. Can the Fish hold on and make it to the postseason? We shall see.

On Saturday Miami won by a score of 7-3 and leading their attack was Garrett Cooper., who had two hits and three RBIs while Miguel Rojas had three hits and an RBI. Rojas (4) and Cooper (5) each went deep in the contest while Miami as a team pounded out 15 hits. The marlins are now 16th in the league in scoring at 4.61 rpg. The pitching has been strong of late as they have allowed just 2.70 rpg over their last 10 games. For the Year, Miami is 17th in ERA at 4.58. Grabbing the win was Pablo Lopez, who allowed two ERs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven in 5.1 innings of work to move to 5-4 with a 3.96 ERA on the year. I will have Miami's pitcher info for this game when they announce who it will be.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I have to go with the Marlins in this one. they have been playing very well of late while the Nats have been awful. Washington has nothing to play for at this point in the season while the Marlins are still very much alive for a playoff spot. We also note that Miami has four on the road against the Braves and three on the road against the Yankees to finish the year after this game, so this is one that they cannot afford to lose. The Nats have been struggling on the mound and they have Ben Braymer going in this one and he is a reliever that has played in just two career games. He will not be in their long and the Washington pen has a 4.92 ERA on the road. Look for the Marlins to close out this series with a nice win.
Full-Game Total Pick
I think that these teams will combine for a good amount of runs in this one. The Fish have been pitching well of late but Washington still has some pop in ts bats and in a shortened game, they should be able to put up some runs. The Fish will get more as they come in having avderaged 5.75 rpg over their last eight games while the Nats have allowed 5.89 rpg over their last nine games. The Washington pitching has been horrendous this year overall and they do have a 5.79 ERA on the road. Miami needs this game and you can bet that their offense will show up in a big way and that will help push this one over the total.
