Phoenix Suns vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, 01/08/17 - Expert Prediction
Written by: George Middleton
Cleveland Cavaliers (27-8) at Phoenix Suns (12-25)
NBA: Sunday, January 8, 2016, at 8:30 p.m. ET
Line: Cleveland -9
The Cleveland Cavaliers hit the road to take on the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night. This is the first of two meetings between the two teams this season. Cleveland has won four of their last five games and Phoenix has won two in a row. The Cavaliers are led by their terrific trio of LeBron James (26.1 ppg), Kyrie Irving (24.2 ppg), and Kevin Love (21.7 ppg). Phoenix is led by their strong backcourt of Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker. Bledsoe is averaging 20.1 points and 5.8 assists, and Booker is putting up 19 points a game. Can Bledsoe lead the Suns to a huge upset win against Cleveland?
Cavaliers top Nets
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Brooklyn Nets 116-108 on Friday night. Cleveland took control when they outscored Brooklyn 50-39 in the first half. LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 36 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Kyrie Irving went for 32 points in the win. The Nets shot 45 percent from the field while the Cavaliers shot 43 percent. Brooklyn out-rebounded Cleveland 52-46. Kevin Love finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Cleveland had some trouble containing Bojan Bogdanovic who had 23 points on 5-of-9 from deep.
Tristan Thompson added 10 points and nine rebounds. Cleveland had 12 turnovers and Brooklyn committed 19. The Cavaliers fell to 9-5 on the road this season.
Eric Bledsoe leads Suns to win
The Phoenix Suns beat the Dallas Mavericks 102-95 on Thursday night. Phoenix went into the fourth quarter down two before they outscored Dallas 32-23 in the fourth. Bledsoe led the Suns as he went for 26 points and seven assists. Booker had 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting in the win. Phoenix shot 45 percent from the field and Dallas shot 46 percent. The Suns had trouble containing Deron Williams who had 20 points and six assists. Brandon Knight finished with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting off the bench.
The key in the contest certainly came on the glass where the Suns out-rebounded the Mavericks 53-31. Tyson Chandler led the team with 18 rebounds. Alex Len wound up with 14 points and seven rebounds. Phoenix improved to 5-16 on the road this season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are:
- 10-3 ATS in their last 13 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
- 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up win.
- 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Phoenix.
The Phoenix Suns are:
- 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 games playing on 2 days rest.
- 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
Cleveland is a much better team, plain and simple. I expect James and Irving to lead the Cavaliers to a blowout victory. The Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Phoenix.
The pick: Cleveland
