Orlando Magic vs. Los Angeles Clippers, 01/11/17 - Prediction
Written by: Jason Green
Orlando Magic (16-23 SU, 15-23-1 ATS, 17-22 O/U) at L.A. Clippers (26-14 SU, 20-20 ATS, 23-17 O/U)
NBA: Wednesday, January 11, 2016 at 10:30 p.m. ET
The Line: LA Clippers -105
Things are going pretty bad for the Magic as of late, as they have lost three in a row and five of their last six games. On top of that they lost in their last game by 16 points to the Lakers and Orlando hopes they have better luck against the other team from La La Land. They have a respectable defense that ranks a respectable 13th in the league in opponents’ ppg, but in two of their last three games they have given up 111 points.
After dropping six games in a row the Clippers have roared back to win four straight and one of the main reasons is that star PG Chris Paul is back in the lineup. Still, leading scorer Blake Griffin is still out. Winning four straight is a solid feat, but only one of the teams in that span has a winning record. L.A. is a very balanced squad that ranks 7th in the league in ppg and 8th in opponents’ ppg.
The Magic are 5-2-1 ATS in the last 8 games facing the Clippers in L.A.
Single digits in a quarter?
The Magic lost to the L.A. Lakers 111-95 in their last game where it was tied in the half, but then the Magic stunk it up in the 3rd quarter only scoring nine points. Overall, in the game they did not play well on either side of the court shooting 37.8% from the floor and they allowed the Lakers to shoot 48.3%. Orlando was cold from deep and committed 18 turnovers and even though they had 18 offensive boards they still lost badly. Serge Ibaka did his part going for 19 points and 10 baords, but he did not get a lot of help from the other starters and while Evan Fournier went for 19 points he only shot 6/16 from the floor and had four turnovers. The Magic have young talent, but they have to get back to playing good D since they only rank 27th in the league in ppg.
Lucky 18 against Miami
In the Clippers last game they beat the Miami Heat 98-86 and Chris Paul dished out 11 assists and DeAndre Jordan grabbed 18 rebounds. The Clip Joint did not have a great shooting game, but they played solid D holding Miami to 36.9% shooting and 25.9% 3-pot shooting. Paul and J.J. Redick shot well and combined for 44 points in the game and Marreese Speights came up big off the bench foing for 19 points. The Clippers have a great shooting team with the likes of Redick, Paul, and Jammal Crawford, who would like to fotge the 1/12 Miami game, and if they can shoot the pill and play solid D like they did against the Heat they will get their 2nd win in a row facing a team from the Sunshine State.
The Orlando Magic Are:
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game
- 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record
The L.A. Clippers are:
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record
The Clippers have Paul back and are 4-0 ATS in their last four games while the Magic are 1-5 ATS in their last six games. Hmmm, tough pick. Yeah, take the Clip Joint to win and cover in this non-conference match up.
I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
