Charlotte Hornets vs. Portland Trailblazers
Where and when: Moda Center, Portland, Oregon, Friday, 10:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time
The Charlotte Hornets will continue their west coast swing with game 4 of the 6 game road trip against the surging Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, on Friday night at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Portland Trail Blazers enter this matchup winners of three straight games as they were able to pick up a win versus the struggling Chicago Bulls at home as CJ McCollum carried the scoring load for his team in putting up 24 points for the game as the Portland Trail Blazers were able to outscored their opponents 68 – 61 in the second half en route to their eighth victory in 10 games, overall.
On the other hand, the road trip has been disastrous for the Charlotte Hornets are losers of two of three of their road games thus far on a six-game road trip, as stated. In their last outing versus the Clippers, Charlotte suffered, once again, on both sides of the floor as they only shot 40% from the floor while allowing the Clippers to shoot a tad over 53% for the game en route to the victory.
In all, the under has been the play in the last 6 meetings amongst these two teams while the Hornets are 1-9 against the spread of the last 10 meetings at Moda Center.
Blazers pull away from Bulls late for victory
If you guys can remember, I have been stating for quite some time that the Portland Trail Blazers were beginning to rely a bit too much on the services of Damian Lillard on a night by night basis. With that being said, the Portland Trail Blazers have stepped up their play on the offensive end in which to better incorporate other players such as CJ McCollum as well as Jusuf Nurkic as they were each instrumental in their most recent win over the Chicago Bulls at home.
In all, McCullom ended the game with 24 points, as stated while Nurkic finished with 18 points along with 8 rebounds, despite being in foul trouble for most of the game. On the other hand, Lillard ended the game with 16 points along with ten assists, which counts as his fifth Double-Double of the Season. Said Lillard, ”We had a stretch we played against all playoff teams. Not looking down on any of our past few opponents but they’ve been teams where we’ve been able to get things that we might not have been able to get against those other teams because we’re so familiar with them, their style,” Lillard said. ”So I’ve just kind of been letting the game happen, making the right plays and guys have been playing really well.”

This type of strategy will certainly do Portland well moving forward as they really needed consistent scoring from other players aside from Lillard. Nonetheless, the Portland Trail Blazers will look to have a carryover effect from their 53% shooting night in which to take care of business versus a reeling Charlotte Hornets squad that has had his disastrous road trip in recent days. In fact, the Hornets have allowed at least 120 points in three of the last four games, overall.
Defense lacking for Hornets in loss at Staples
There is certainly something going wrong in the Charlotte locker room at this critical point in the season as they have certainly stunk it up in their past few outings in going only 1-3 in the last 4 games, overall. And while they were certainly in the game for much of their matchup versus the Clippers, the home team outscored the Hornets 42-32 in the final period in which to seal the victory as the Clippers were able to convert on 14 three pointers on the night while shooting well over 50% as they possessed a whopping four 20 point scorers. Lou Williams led the pack with 27 points along with 10 assists.

On the other hand, Montrezl Harrell along with Tobias Harris each scored 23 points apiece for the Clippers in the win in addition to Danilo Gallinari also chipping in 20 points. On the other hand, the Hornets were led by reserve Malik Monk who led the team with 24 points while Jeremy Lamb and Kemba Walker chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively, as Walker went only 6-18 from the floor on the night.
”They made very few mistakes. They rarely turned the ball over,” Monk said. ”We were rushing and out of our own rhythm. They forced us out of our rhythm and they outworked us.” With that being said, look for Charlotte to attempt to shore up defensive deficiencies for their matchup versus the Portland Trail Blazers in this contest on Friday night. It will be important to note that Charlotte happens to be only 1-5 in their last six road games while the Portland Trail Blazers have one for the last five home games, overall.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will certainly back the Portland Trail Blazers in this contest as I happen to feel as though they are simply the better team at this point in the season. Combine this with the fact that they have suddenly found their stroke at home on both ends of the floor while Charlotte continues to flounder like a fish on land, at this point, look for Portland to seize control of this game while also picking up a much-needed victory while the Hornets will continue to suffer on their current road trip.
Prediction: Pick: Portland Trail Blazers -250
Full-Game Total Pick
Look for the Blazers, who will come into this matchup with the bulk of the momentum, to neutralize, once again, a struggling Charlotte offense on Friday night. Furthermore, the under has been the play in four the last five games for the Portland Trail Blazers, overall, primarily due to the way in which their defense has stepped up recently. With that being the case, look for the trends to remain true in this contest as I certainly see both teams putting points on the board, however, the total will not surpass its set limit.
Prediction: Pick: Under 223
Full-Game Prop Bet
While Portland will certainly come out with the win in this contest at home versus the Charlotte Hornets, expect the Hornets to show a bit of pride in this contest in keeping the game tight throughout. Walker will have a much better performance in this contest while the Hornets will also do a much better job on the defensive end after a disastrous job versus the Clippers. With that being said, look for the Charlotte Hornets to cover the spread in this very exciting match-up on Friday night.
Prediction: Pick: Charlotte Hornets +6
Half-Time Side Pick
While one should certainly look for the Hornets to keep this game close throughout, this will be a matchup to where they will certainly take a while in which to get going. Also, one must consider the way the Portland Trail Blazers have played defense recently in understanding that they will indeed have a solid night on the defensive end early on. With that being the case, expect the Blazers to possess a small lead at the half while also covering the spread.
Prediction: Pick: Portland Trail Blazers -3.5
Half-Time Total Bet
At the conclusion of the first half, look for the under to be the strong play as I see the Blazers limiting offensive opportunities for a dismal Charlotte Hornets offense. On the other hand, look for Charlotte to also perform much better on the defensive end then Illustrated versus Los Angeles at Staples Center in their last outing.
Prediction: Pick: Under 112.5
Half-Time Prop Prediction
Again, one should certainly look for the Blazers to possess a small lead at the half as they will continue their stellar play on the defensive end early on. Also, expect their suddenly balanced scoring attack to shine in the first half as well as the home team will certainly go into the half with a small lead advantage, thus cashing in on the money line.
Prediction: Pick: Portland Trail Blazers -200
