Our Deep-3 picks are 8-1 this week and we’ve got the latest version right here:
Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
NBA: Friday, January 11, 2019 at 8:00 PM EST
The Mavericks snapped their three-game losing streak in their last game beating the Suns, who they lost to in their previous two meetings this season. Luca Doncic went for 30 points and the rookie sensation has been a big hit in the Big D. Dallas is still three games under .500 and while they are tied with the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2nd fewest wins in the West they are only a few games out of the 8th spot in the tight conference. The Mavs are led by their defense, which ranks 12th in the league in points allowed and they held the Suns to 94 points in their last game.
The Timberwolves have won three in a row and after the first win in that streak they fired team president and head coach Tom Thibodeau. Ryan Saunders took over as Minnesota’s interim coach and is the son of Flip Saunders, who had two head coaching stints in Minnesota.
Watch this @NBATV clip & see why the Saunders family is loved across the NBA. Congrats to Ryan on being 1-0 & thanks @IsiahThomas & @realchriswebber for a great moment. Flip was so good to so many of us he didn’t have to be nice to – that’s just who he was. And he is missed. pic.twitter.com/OPGcUrNcgJ

The T-Wolves can get to the .500 mark with a win in this game and they lost to Dallas on the road in their 3rd game of the season.
The Mavs are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 home games facing the Timberwolves.
Rookie does it again
In their last game, the Mavericks were at home and beat the Phoenix Suns 104-94 with Luca Doncic having another solid game going for 30 points. They shot the same FG% as the Suns (42.9%) and had 20 turnovers, but they had 32 points from the free throw line while Phoenix only had 15. Every starter for Dallas scored at least 11 points led by Doncic, who was 8/14 from the floor, Harrison Barnes had 17 points, and Maximilian Kleber was one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.
Doncic is averaging just under 20 ppg (19.8 ppg) and is also averaging 6.7 rpg and 4.9 assists per game. Dallas has six players averaging in double figures and one of them in DeAndre Jordan ranks 2nd in the league in rebounds per game (14 rpg). This season the Mavs are only 3-18 on the road and are tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the fewest road wins in the NBA.
Little things mask poor shooting
The Timberwolves were on the road in their last game where they did the little things well, which helped mask a poor shooting game in a 119-117 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. They only shot 42.2% from the floor and allowed the Thunder to shoot 50%, but they had more offensive boards, fewer turnovers, and outscored OKC by 13 points from the free throw line. Andrew Wiggins had a big game going for 40 points on 11/24 shooting and also had 10 rebounds, Karl-Anthony Towns had 20 points and nine rebounds, and three reserves went for double figures.
Towns (22.1 ppg) and Derrick Rose (18.9 ppg) are the two leading scorers for the team and Rose will play in this game after missing the last few with an ankle injury. Wiggins ranks 3rd on the squad averaging 17.9 ppg and he has totaled 68 points in his last two games. This season Minnesota is a solid 14-6 at home.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are:
- 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games
The Dallas Mavericks are:
- 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 Friday games
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Both of these teams have been great at home this season while bad on the road. The Mavs beat the Timberwolves at home earlier this season and in this game in the Land of 10,000 Lakes you have to go with the T-Wolves. They will win and cover the spread in their house for their 4th straight win sending the Mavs to their 4th loss in their last five games
Prediction: PICK: Timberwolves
Full-Game Total Pick
White the total has gone Under in eight of the nine games between these teams the one Over in that span was this season where the Mavs beat the Timberwolves in a barnburner. Both teams will rack up the points in this one just like the first meeting. Unlike the first meetings the Timberwolves will come out on top, but like that game the total will go Over.
Prediction: TOTAL: Over
