Sacramento Kings vs. Utah Jazz Prediction, Preview, and Odds - 1-18-2020
On Saturday night, the Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz will do battle in this Pacific vs Northwest Division matchup. Tip-off is set for 9:00 PM ET.
Television-wise, the matchup will be broadcast on NSCA for Sacramento and ATRM for Utah.
Kings Trying To End Another Mini Losing StreakThe Sacramento Kings are having another tough season, but they are still in the very clustered playoff race, for that eighth spot in the Western Conference. Sacramento is 14th in the conference standings, 11-15 in conference play, 7-13 away, and 3-7 in their last ten games. Recently, Sactown lost eight games in a row, won three of four, and now have lost three games in a row. The good news is most of these losses are very close ones. The bad news is that they are still defeats and they are starting to pile up. Kings need to figure out a way to finish strong in games and do that little extra. Buddy Hield leads the team in points per game with 20.3.
According to nbcsports.com, De'Aaron Fox's development is a silver lining in disappointing Kings season.
“It’s stuff that I knew I could always do, it’s just being more consistent,” Fox said earlier this week. “Continuing to make shots, get to the basket, get to the free throw line, things of that nature. Just trying to help my team win ball games.”
In their last game, the Kings lost to the Dallas Mavericks 127-123. Sacramento kept pace with Dallas in the first half, fell back in the third quarter, finished strong in the fourth, but once again, it was not enough. The Kings had five players finish in double figures in scoring and a decent amount of bench production. Sactown shot 52.1 percent from the field, 12 of 33 on threes, and 11 of 20 on free throws. The rebound totals were high and the Kings did very well in points in the paint. In the end, missing too many free throws did them in. They lost by nine points at the line and that was the difference maker, in an all around, great effort from Sacramento.
Jazz Playing Some Good BallThe Utah Jazz are having another good season. They are fourth in the Western Conference standings, 15-8 in conference play, 15-3 at home, and 9-1 in their last ten games. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Jazz are the hottest teams in the conference right now. Recently, Utah had a ten-game winning streak. Most of the wins were against bad teams, but a win is a win in this league. During the streak, a little over half of the wins were by double digits and some came down to the wire. Utah had a nice mix of high scoring wins with good defense. Look for them to try and keep it going. Donovan Mitchell leads the team in points per game with 24.8.
According to ksl.com, Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley likely to return Saturday against Kings.
"Conley has participated in post-shootaround and practice activities for much of the last month, and now, he looks to be cleared to return to game action."
In their last game, the Jazz lost to the New Orleans Pelicans 138-132. The overtime loss ended Utah's ten-game winning streak and it was a back and forth game from start to finish. The Jazz had five players finish in double figures in scoring and they even had some bench production. Utah shot 46 percent from the field, 15 of 39 from three, and 25 of 32 from the free throw line. the rebounds were at a high total and the team picked up a good amount of steals. Crucial turnovers and points in the paint did them in. It was a hard fought loss and the Jazz will be ready to bounce back against another below .500 team.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Yes the Kings always seem to have more losing streaks than winning streaks. The Jazz have been enjoying an easy part of their schedule and taking care of business. Utah is 10-1 in their last 11 games and most of the wins were by double digits. However, even though Sacramento is on another little funk, the games have been pretty close and they are going up against some elite teams. The Jazz are packed with size, talent, and depth. The Kings have a decent mix of young shooters and some veteran presence in the starting core and coming off of the bench. Sacramento will put up a fight, but Mitchell and Rudy Gobert will be too much for the Kings to handle.
Prediction: Sacramento Kings +9.5
Full-Game Total Pick
In most of the Utah home games, the total scoring doesn't go over 220 that much. The Kings average 106.8 points per game and the Jazz average 110.2. Utah is a little more efficient in shooting from the field, from three, and they are pretty even from the free throw line. The Jazz have always been a good defensive team and Mitchell leads the flow on offense and will make some good plays on defense. Fox and Hield do most of the scoring for the Kings on a consistent basis. Utah's bench will be more productive than Sacramentos bench. The threes will come and go for both sides and that should keep the game close. Not finishing strong will do the Kings in again against an elite team. Jazz win 112-105, but don't cover the spread.
Prediction: Under 222.5
