The Dallas Mavericks and the Milwaukee Bucks will both be looking to improve on their records when they play this Monday night at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, WI. Dallas comes into this game following a blowout loss to the Indiana Pacers. Meanwhile, Milwaukee comes into this game following a road win against the Orlando Magic.
Doncic Continues To Lead Dallas
The Dallas Mavericks entered the season with the expectation of this being a rebuilding year. The team struggled mightily last year and were rewarded with a potential franchise-reviving player in Luka Dončić. So far in his rookie campaign, Dončić has looked unbelievable and is the favorite to win this year’s Rookie of the Year. So far this season, Dončić is averaging 20.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Dallas might struggle to be an official title contender for a couple of seasons but it appears that he is a star in the making and he should help bring this franchise back into relevancy in due time.
Despite Dončić’s stellar performances, the Mavericks struggled to win games earlier this season as the team only won three of its first 11 games. The main reason for the team’s initial struggles was the team’s performance on the defensive end as other teams were able to score at will on a regular basis. However, Dallas quickly turned it around as the team is now 20-25 due to a vast improvement on the defensive end as the team is now ranked 13th in the league in points allowed.
Unfortunately for the team, its defense was the reason for the loss to the Pacers in Dallas’ last game. In that game, Dallas’ defense was awful as Indiana scored 111 points on over 49% shooting from the floor. With a matchup against one of the best offenses in the league up next, Dallas’ defense will have to play a lot better.
Bucks Look For Fifth Straight Win
The Milwaukee Bucks entered the season with hopes of making a deep playoff run in the Eastern Conference. After winning 44 games last year, the Bucks decided to fire its head coach and hired former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer to take the reigns. Budenholzer is known in the NBA for being having a fantastic offensive gameplan and it mainly relies on three-pointers. Since becoming the coach, Milwaukee has looked unstoppable on offense as teams cannot contain all of their three-point shooters. That three-point shooting helped carry the Bucks to a four-game winning streak including a victory in their last game against the Magic. In that game, the team hit 12 three-pointers on 40% shooting from downtown while ending the game with 118 points. Now, Milwaukee’s offense will look to play well once again in this one.
Milwaukee’s offense is led by star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo who has been fantastic this season. This year, he has become one of the most unstoppable offensive threats in the league as he is currently averaging 26.4 points per game along with 12.5 rebounds. Being 6’11 with the agility of a guard makes him virtually unguardable in the paint as he is too big for other guards and he is too quick for opposing big men. Antetokounmpo is currently shooting over 58% from the floor and one should expect him to be a force once again this Monday.
Milwaukee’s offense is currently averaging 117.6 points per game which ranks second in the NBA. This team likes to speed it up offensively and create most of its scoring opportunities in a transition. The Bucks currently have an offensive pace of 103.1 which is the sixth-fastest pace in the NBA. With Milwaukee’s desire to speed the tempo up, look for the Bucks to try getting out in transition in this one.
- Bucks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
- Bucks are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Bucks are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
- Mavericks are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss.
- Mavericks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Bucks are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference while the Mavericks are currently out of the playoff picture. The Bucks have the better and deeper roster as the team should be able to get whatever it wants offensively against this Dallas Mavericks team. Furthermore, the Bucks are in the middle of a four-game winning streak and should come out hungry in this game. I expect the Bucks to win by margin in this one and I will gladly side with the favorite.
Prediction: Milwaukee -11.5
Full-Game Total Pick
The Bucks had the desire to play with one of the fastest paces in the NBA entering the season and it has definitely paid off. The team is averaging the second-most points per game in the league and I do not expect the Mavericks to have any answers. Dallas’ offense this season has been serviceable and I think that the team’s youth will encourage it to join Milwaukee in an uptempo game that should feature a ton of transition opportunities. I expect the Mavericks to score a solid amount of points as they give up a ton to the Bucks. I will gladly recommend the over in this game as a result.
Prediction: Over 227.5
