Phoenix travels to Oklahoma to take on the Thunder in an interesting NBA matchup. Phoenix has lost four out of their past five games and Oklahoma City has won four of their past five games.
Phoenix is an Awful Basketball Team
Phoenix is a mess. If you can name their coach without Googling I applaud you. They blew a 22 point second half lead at home to Boston, losing in overtime but at least they covered the spread. Their only win during their past five games was a 102-100 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. In that game Devin Booker scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, Phoenix came back from 12 down and beat what seemed like a disinterested Grizzlies team. It did snap their seven-game losing streak but the Suns quickly found a way to lose again.

It isn’t because the Suns don’t have good players because they do. Booker is one of the best players in the NBA under 25 years of age. They also have potential Rookie of the Year candidate Deandre Ayton, who is averaging 16 points and nearly 11 rebounds and three assists per game.
The Suns average 101 points per game but allow 114 points per game. Phoenix turns the ball over nearly 18 times per game and shoots 44 percent from the floor, 33 percent from three and 80 percent from the free throw line. They play at a 101.3 Pace Rate and have a Defensive Efficiency Rating of 112.4.
Russell Westbrook is Questionable for Monday Night
The Thunder are on a different path than Phoenix. After losing four straight to open their season, the Thunder won seven straight before getting beat on the road Saturday night by the Mavericks, 111-96. The Thunder were without Russell Westbrook in that game and the Thunder are 2-3 this season when Westbrook is unable to play. Currently Westbrook is listed as day to day and is questionable for Monday’s contest.
Rough game for OKC in Dallas, snapping its 7-game win streak, 111-96. George 20-13-6 (8-21 shooting), Adams 20 and 13, Schroder 19 (8-21). Doncic 22-6-8, Barea 21. Mavs shot 55.8%; OKC 39.2%.

The handicap in this game is Russell Westbrook. We have no idea if he’s playing or not and obviously the Thunder are a much better team record wise when Westbrook suits up, but the Thunder still can get the job done without him. I pulled up the stats for the last three games without Westbrook and I encourage you to visit this prior to making your bet Monday night.
- Thunder are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Thunder are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Thunder are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Northwest.
- Suns are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Monday games.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
If Westbrook plays this is a slam dunk. If he doesn’t the Thunder are still good enough to win against a very bad Phoenix Suns team. Their slow pace will be their downfall in this game because this give the Thunder players like Paul George and Steven Adams a chance to set up on the defensive end. That is a bad thing for the Suns. Phoenix doesn’t have anyone willing to guard Dennis Schroder and I figure he will explode if given 30 minutes. Paul George will have his hands full going against the combination of Trevor Ariza and T.J. Warren but he should still get his and I’m betting on the Thunder to cover Monday night.
Prediction: Thunder -4.5
Full-Game Total Pick
The Thunder are at home and probably not very happy to have their seven game winning streak snapped by Dallas. In walks Phoenix and an opportunity to take out some of that frustration on the worst defense in the NBA. Phoenix can score and I’m thinking this turns into a track meet and if it does they will shatter that 210.5 total. I’m betting on the over Monday night.
Prediction: Over 210.5
