New York Knicks vs. Portland Trail Blazers
Where and when: Moda Center, Portland, Oregon, Tuesday, 10:05 pm EST
Two teams that are badly in need of a win will meet at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday night at 10:05 pm EST as the New York Knicks face the Portland Trailblazers. Portland has won five straight versus New York, including three straight at the Moda Center; However, the Knicks have covered the number in their two, most recent outings. The Knicks enter this contest 2-4 ATS in their last six games while the Blazers are not much better at 1-4 against the number in their last five games, overall.
New York hits the road seeking much-needed successNew York seeks to end a nine-game skid when they face off versus Portland in game one of a four-game West Coast road trip. A huge reason for their losing ways can be attributed to inconsistencies on both ends of the floor. For instance, their offense is barely averaging 100 points per game on 42% shooting (36% 3FG) while they are allowing 47% shooting to opponents along with 111 points per. This type of play has resulted in the Knicks losing by an average of 15 points during their nine-game losing streak.

Marcus Morris, Jr. (19 ppg) has paced New York in the scoring department in 2019 as he is shooting just 43% from the floor, but is making 50% of his shots from three-point range. Aside from Julius Randle, it has been difficult to find any additional consistent scoring from the likes of guard Elfrid Payton, for instance, who is averaging 8 ppg on 39% shooting. Randle is putting up 17 points, 9 rebs, along with 3 assists a game for the Knicks on 43% shooting from the floor. Yet, Randle is shooting only 23% from long-range (19-80). Randle also failed to make a free throw to send their most recent contest versus the Indiana Pacers into overtime, thus handing the Knicks their 19th loss on the season.
Blazers seek to end two-game home skid with victoryPortland has also had its fair share of issues lately in dropping three of four heading into this contest. They dropped their second straight at home versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night despite getting 26 points from Damien Lillard on a horrible shooting night (8-24, 2-12 3FG). CJ McCollum (20 points, 8-21, 2-6 3FG), along with new addition Carmelo Anthony (9 points, 4-18, 1-5 3FG) also struggled versus the Thunder, yet a positive was Hassan Whiteside putting up another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Lillard showed his frustration after their loss to Oklahoma City in stating, “I think we kind of just play well in stretches, and we don't really have the luxury of playing well in stretches. We're a team that if the ball's not going in, we gotta be getting to the 50-50 balls, we can't be letting teams get second and third opportunities. We foul every 30 seconds," Lillard said. "I mean we are doing a lot of things as a team that are putting us at a disadvantage.” Portland continues to tread along without center Josef Nurkic, Zack Collins, along with Rodney Hood being out with injuries. Furthermore, the Trailblazers are 2-3 ATS in their last five games at Moda Center.
- No trends to report
- Knicks are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
- Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will give the edge to the Trailblazers in this instance as they simply happen to be better from a talent perspective than the struggling Knicks. New York is coming off a road defeat versus the Milwaukee Bucks to where they folded by 42-points in addition to losing by 28-points versus the Toronto Raptors on November 27th. Again, New York will certainly bring some focus into this game as they will attempt to end a devastating losing streak; However, the Blazers desperately need a win just as bad as they are slowly beginning to look like underachievers early in 2019.
Prediction: Portland Trailblazers -9
Full-Game Total Pick
Both teams will certainly be looking to put some much-needed points on the board during this contest, particularly after lackluster outings that resulted in defeats in their most recent matchups. However, each of these offenses continue to suffer from inconsistency, as pointed out, and will likely struggle yet again in this contest. The under has been the play in six of the last seven matchups amongst these two teams in addition to being the result in the past three meetings at Moda Center. One should expect a low-scoring and competitive contest from each of these struggling squads as the total will not be surpassed in the end.
Prediction: Under 218.5
