The Toronto Raptors will be looking for another win as they host the Brooklyn Nets at the Scotiabank Arena this Monday night. The Raptors are currently 41-16 after beating the New York Knicks in their last game. Meanwhile, the Nets are 29-28 after losing to the Chicago Bulls in their last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records in this game.
Nets Starting To Struggle A Bit
The Brooklyn Nets entered the season with hopes of competing for a spot in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. After winning 28 games last year, the Nets were expected to improve and to be a lot more competitive than they were last season. So far this season, the Nets have fulfilled that prophesy as the team is currently one game over .500 with a 29-28 record. However, the Nets enter this game with losses in four of the team’s last five games including a loss to the Chicago Bulls in their last game. In that game, the Nets’ defense was awful as it allowed 125 points on over 54% shooting from the floor. With a better offense up next, look for the Nets to struggle defensively again.
The Brooklyn Nets are led by point guard D’Angelo Russell who has been tremendous this season. Last season, Russell averaged 15.5 points per game along with 5.2 assists. This season, he has looked even better as he is currently averaging 19.8 points per game along with 6.5 assists. Russell has also been extremely clutch for the team as he has hit some big shots in the fourth quarters of several contests. Russell has played so well that he has already been named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his young NBA career. If the Nets plan on winning this game, Russell better be at his best.
Raptors Continue To Roll
During the offseason, the Toronto Raptors made headlines when they decided to acquire star forward Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs for guard DeMar DeRozan. So far this season, Leonard has excelled with the Raptors as he is averaging a team-high 26.9 points per game along with 7.8 rebounds. The team has also benefited from third-year power forward Pascal Siakam who is the favorite to win this year’s NBA Most Improved Player Award. This season, Siakam is averaging 15.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Together, the two of them have great chemistry and should lead the team to a potential cover in this one.
The Toronto Raptors are currently in great form as the team has won each of its last four games to push the team’s record to 41-16. In the team’s last game, the Raptors were able to defeat the Knicks on the road by five points. In that game, Toronto’s defense was fantastic as it only allowed 99 points on less than 42% shooting from the floor. With a much better offense up next, Toronto’s defense will need to play well once again in this one.
- Under is 7-0 in Raptors last 7 games following a straight up win.
- Under is 5-0 in Raptors last 5 home games.
- Under is 5-0 in Raptors last 5 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Under is 6-0 in Nets last 6 Monday games.
- Under is 5-1 in Nets last 6 games playing on 2 days rest.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Nets were one of the hottest teams in the league but have slumped over the last few weeks. Meanwhile, the Raptors are one of the best team’s in the conference and have been rolling as of late. The Raptors are also an impressive 22-5 at home and I think that the Raptors will take care of business in this one behind Leonard and Siakam. Give me the home favorite in this one as a result.
Prediction: Toronto -10.5
Full-Game Total Pick
In Toronto’s last few games, it has looked extremely solid on the defensive end. Although Brooklyn’s defense has struggled as of late, the team still likes to play somewhat scrappy and I can see this game turning into a defensive grind. Brooklyn’s offense is very guard-oriented and I think that Toronto’s length will make them extremely uncomfortable on the perimeter. I think this total is a bit too high as a result so I like the under.
Prediction: Under 226.5
