Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors
NBA: Monday, April 15, 2019, Oracle Arena, Oakland, California, 10:30 PM ET
The second game of the Western Conference First Round series between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Golden State Warriors is set for Monday night at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The Warriors won the opener 121-104 as 13.5-point home favorites two days ago, and they are listed as massive favorites to increase the lead.
The Clippers need to tighten up their defense
The Los Angeles Clippers (48-35; 45-37-1 ATS) were helpless in that 121-104 defeat to the Warriors in the opening game of the series. They were trailing by 13 points at the break and just couldn’t find the way to endanger their rivals in the second half. It was another poor defensive performance by Doc Rivers’ team, allowing the Warriors to make 49.5% of their field goals including 14 triples out of 30 attempts from deep along with 31 assists. The Clippers made 24 assists and 19 turnovers, while they also allowed 11 offensive rebounds.
The Clippers’ starting lineup was a complete disaster in game one, combining for 39 points, while Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams combined for 51 points off the bench. Harrell accounted for 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field along with five rebounds and a couple of blocks and steals. Danilo Gallinari had 15 points and eight rebounds, making just four of his 14 field-goal attempts. The Clippers are scoring 112.4 points per 100 possessions this term (9th in the league) on 47.1% shooting from the field (8th), surrendering 111.5 points in a return (21st) on 45.7% shooting from the field (13th).
The Warriors are looking for their fifth straight win over the Clippers
The Golden State Warriors (58-25; 36-46-1 ATS) are on a four-game winning streak in their head-to-head meetings with the Clippers. The reigning champions won the regular-season series 3-1 including a 131-104 home victory on April 7. At the start of the playoff series, the Warriors limited the Clippers on 40.4% shooting from the field, while they had a good game at the offensive end, despite making 21 turnovers. The Warriors pulled away late in the second quarter, and the head coach Steve Kerr is certainly pleased with the second-half performance, as his boys didn’t allow the Clippers to jeopardize their lead.
Stephen Curry had a terrific night in the opener, scoring 38 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field including eight treys. Curry added 15 rebounds and seven assists, proving he’s playing in a tremendous form at the moment. Kevin Durant tallied 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field, and he was ejected in the fourth quarter due to his conflict with Patrick Beverley. Draymond Green finally had a good game, posting 17 points, seven boards, and seven assists in 35 minutes on the floor. The Warriors are scoring 116.0 points per 100 possessions this term (1st in the league) on 49.1% shooting from the field (also 1st), conceding 109.5 points in a return (13th) on 44.4% shooting from the field (3rd).
Golden State Warriors:
- 12-2 SU and 9-5 ATS in the last 14 meetings with the Clippers
- 17-2 SU and 12-7 in the last 19 home encounters with the Clippers
- 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS in the last seven playoff games
Los Angeles Clippers:
- 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS in the last nine games on the road in the postseason
- 3-9 SU and ATS in the last 12 playoff games overall
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Warriors are obviously ready for the playoffs, and they played very well on both sides of the ball in the opening game of the first-round series. Steph Curry is looking completely unstoppable which is great news for Steve Kerr and the Warriors fans. On the other side, the Clippers really need to improve defensively, but it’s a big question if they are capable to cope with the Warriors’ offense. The Clippers are limited defensively, struggling all season long, so I’m backing the Warriors to cover tonight.
Prediction: Golden State Warriors -13.5 (-110)
Full-Game Total Pick
The under has hit in 14 of the Warriors last 20 postseason games. Also, the under is 15-5 in the Warriors’ previous 20 games overall. While the reigning champions are scoring at will, the Clippers are struggling to execute at a high level, so I think they will fail to combine for more than 230 points.
Prediction: Under 230.0 points (-110)
Full-Game Prop Bet
The Warriors have scored 129 or more points in three of their last four home meetings with the Clippers, but they surpass a 123-point mark just twice in the previous 12 showings at home. Also, the Clippers allowed 124 or more points in two of their last nine games on the road, so I’m backing the under on the hosts’ team totals.
Prediction: Team Totals: Golden State Warriors under 123.5 points (-110)
Half-Time Side Pick
The Warriors were leading at halftime in their last six games at home, and five times in that span, the lead was bigger than today’s 8.5-point spread, while the Warriors had a 7-point lead against the Clippers in their final home game in the regular season. The Clippers just have to keep it close in the first half if they want to stand a chance tonight, so I’m backing them to cover at the break.
Prediction: Los Angeles Clippers +8.5 (-110)
