NCAAB: Thursday, January 12 at 7.00 PM ET, McCamish Pavilion, Atlanta, Georgia
The Line: Clemson Tigers -9.5
The 11-4 Clemson Tigers travel to Atlanta to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an Atlantic Coast Conference match-up. Both teams split their first two conference games but are coming into this game on the back of losses. The Tigers were beaten by the no. 23 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 75-70, while the Yellow Jackets were thrashed 65-50 in a low-scorer by the No. 9 Louisville Cardinals.
Sub-par second half hands Clemson another loss
The No. 23 Notre Dame Fighting Irish stayed unbeaten in conference play with a 75-70 win against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday. It was Clemson’s fourth loss of the season, second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in three games. It was a fantastic comeback from Notre Dame, who overcame a seven-point deficit at halftime.
The Tigers were unable to get the ball rolling towards the latter stages of the game. They had a 66-64 lead with a little over three minutes remaining, but Notre Dame stormed back with some clutch shots from VJ Beachem, who scored a career-high 22 points.
Jaron Blossomgame put up 22 points and Gabe DeVoe scored 14 points, including four three-pointers for Clemson. “It’s hard to guard them all,” Clemson coach Brad Brownell said. “Beachem was a difference maker, he was outstanding in the first half. That’s what you get when you play Notre Dame. They just have so many weapons.”
Georgia Tech struggle from the floor
The No. 9 Louisville Cardinals hit nine three-pointers and cruised past the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a low-scorer on Saturday, 65-50. Georgia Tech struggled from the field in the first half, making just three of their first 15 shots. Ben Lammers scored 24 points with nine rebounds, while Josh Okogie managed 15 points.
Both combined for Georgia Tech’s 39 of 50 points. Georgia Tech made 1 of 8 from beyond the arc. Louisville accrued a 27-18 lead at halftime and the Yellow Jackets were never in the contest thereon. “We’re fighting like crazy,” Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner. “Quentin’s giving every ounce of energy that he’s got. Tadrick’s trying, but we just need another scorer.”
The Yellow Jackets currently concede more than they score: putting up 66.6 points per game, tied for 307th in the country. They allow 67.9 PPG, 87th overall nationally.
Clemson Tigers are:
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a road favorite.
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning straight up record.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are:
- 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning straight up record.
- 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 Thursday games.
- 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The Tigers’ offense puts up 77.7 points per game, the Yellow Jackets score just 66.6: there is more than a 11-point advantage there for the Tigers, a little more than the points spread. The Tigers concede less than the Yellow Jackets too. Clemson has a clear advantage in this match-up.
The Pick: Clemson Tigers -9.5
