UC Irvine will both be looking for its 14th win of the season when the team travels to Titan Gym to take on Cal State Fullerton. UC Irvine enters this game with a 12-4 record after beating UC Davis in its last game. Meanwhile, Cal State Fullerton enters this game with a 4-11 record after losing to Hawaii in its last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records in this one.
UC Irvine Wins Overtime Thriller
Last season, the UC Irvine Anteaters went 18-17 and lost in the finals of its conference tournament to Cal State Fullerton. This season, UC Irvine has looked significantly better as the team is currently 13-4. UC Irvine came came into this season with the expectations of competing in the Big West and the team looks like one of the favorites to win the conference at this point in time. In the team’s last game, UC Irvine had to go to overtime against UC Davis before it was able to escape with a two point victory. In that game, UC Irvine’s defense was solid as the team only allowed 69 points on 41% shooting from the floor.
The UC Irvine Anteaters are led by junior guard Max Hazzard who was a nice role player on last year’s team. Last season, Hazzard averaged 8.4 points per game along with 2.0 rebounds. However, he has managed to duplicate last year’s excellence this season as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game along with 1.6 assists. He is the best offensive player on this team by a wide margin so he will need to play really well if the team plans on covering this spread.
Cal State Fullerton Continues To Disappoint
Last season, the Cal State Fullerton Titans went 20-12 and even made it to the NCAA tournament before losing to Purdue in the first round. This season, Cal State Fullerton has looked significantly worse as the team is currently 4-11. Surprisingly, the team did manage to return the bulk of its key contributors from last season but the team has just been unable to win games on a consistent basis. In the team’s last game, Cal State Fullerton lost to Hawaii by 11 points as conference play did not start out the way that the Titans wanted it to. In that game, Cal State Fullerton’s defense was bad as the team only allowed 78 points on over 47% shooting from the floor.
The Cal State Fullerton Titans are led by senior guard Khalil Ahmad who was fantastic on last year’s team. Last season, Ahmad averaged 15.1 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds. However, he has managed to duplicate last year’s excellence this season as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 18.6 points per game along with 3.5 rebounds. As the best offensive player on this team, he will need to play really well if the team plans on covering this spread.
- Titans are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 vs. Big West.
- Anteaters are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Although UC Irvine is the better team, it really did not impress me in its last game. Almost losing to arguably the worse team in the conference, UC Davis, leaves a lot to be desired and I do not trust this team on the highway in this one. Cal State Fullerton has a lot of experienced players and I think that the leaders will step up in this one. I think that, despite the team’s recent struggles, Cal State Fullerton is an active dog in this game and I will take the points with the home team in this one.
Prediction: Cal State Fullerton
Full-Game Total Pick
Both teams in this matchup have struggled this season when it comes to putting the ball in the basket on a regular basis. UC Irvine does not have a prolific offense by any means and I do not think the team will score more than 65 points in this game. This total seems a bit low but I believe it is low for a reason. Give me the under in this one as a result.
