The second week of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) commences with a serious rivalry when the Rebels of Ole Miss travel to Starkville for an SEC and huge instate rivalry with the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Ole Miss is 2-0 in SEC play and Mississippi State is ranked fourteenth in the country and is 0-1 in the SEC so far this season.
Ole Miss Upsets Auburn
Ole Miss has won nine consecutive games and has SEC victories over Vanderbilt, and most recently defeated number fourteen ranked Auburn at home this past Wednesday night by a score of 82-67. Senior guard Terence Davis scored 27 points with 12 rebounds and freshman forward KJ Buffon came off the bench to score 16 points and grab four rebounds. The Rebels shot 45 percent from the field, 36 percent from long range and a solid 73 percent from the free throw line in their home win over Auburn.

The Rebels aren’t reporting any injuries for Saturday’s game with the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss scores an average of 79 points and allows an average of 66 points per game. The Rebels are shooting 50 percent from the floor, 38 percent from long range and 76 percent from the free throw line. Ole Miss averages a total of 36 rebounds, 16 assists and 14 turnovers per game this season.
Bulldogs Suffer Overtime Loss to South Carolina
Mississippi State is the fourteenth ranked team in the nation and have played one of the strongest schedules this far in NCAA hoops. The Bulldogs suffered a difficult to swallow 87-82 overtime road loss to South Carolina to open SEC conference play and I am certain the Bulldogs are feeling the heat for Saturday’s game with rival Ole Miss. Senior forward Aric Holman scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and sophomore guard Nick Weatherspoon chipped in with 18 points, three assists and three rebounds in a losing cause for Mississippi State. The Rebels shot 45 percent from the floor, 44 percent from long range and a chilly 13-23 from the charity stripe in their overtime loss to South Carolina.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
This should be a reasonably close game and since this contest isn’t on the board yet, I’m going with the home Bulldogs on the money line. Ole Miss is a good team but playing on the road has its own set of issues, not to mention a possible letdown after their upset victory over Auburn. I think the Bulldogs depth coupled with their overtime loss to South Carolina will rule the day on Saturday.
Prediction: Mississippi State
Full-Game Total Pick
We don’t have a total so I generally side with the under in rivalry games between two very solid sides. I would be surprised if this game score reaches 140 points and I suspect the posted total will be roughly 142-145 points. And that works for those of us who are playing the under on Saturday.
