The Big Ten has a great Saturday afternoon contest scheduled for us when the Rutgers Scarlet Knights travel to Minneapolis for a Saturday afternoon contest with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Rutgers is off to a slow, 1-3 start to their Big Ten season and Minnesota is currently 2-2 in Big Ten conference play so far this season.
Rutgers Upsets Ohio State
Rutgers started off their Big Ten season slowly, losing to number nine ranked Michigan State, number twelve ranked Wisconsin and Maryland before knocking off number sixteen ranked Ohio State at home this past Wednesday night by a score of 64-61. Freshman guard Montez Mathis scored 16 points with four rebounds and sophomore guard Geo Baker added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead Rutgers to their upset victory over Ohio State. The Scarlet Knights shot 41 percent from the floor, 31 percent from long range and 75 percent from the charity stripe in their win over OSU Wednesday night.

Leading scorer and rebounder Eugene Omoruyi is listed as out for Saturdays tilt with a knee injury suffered in the Ohio State victory. Losing the junior forward is a huge loss for a Rutgers side that already has difficulties scoring and rebounding the basketball.
The Scarlet Knights score an average of 68 points and allows a total of 63 points per game this season. Rutgers is shooting 40 percent from the floor, 31 percent from three-point land and 63 percent from the charity stripe. The Scarlet Knights average a total of 40 rebounds, 13 assists and 13 turnovers per game this season
Minnesota Suffers Home Loss to Maryland
The Golden Gophers are a .500 team thus far in Big Ten play this season; they have victories over Wisconsin and Nebraska and have suffered losses to Ohio State and Tuesday night suffered an 82-67 home loss to a feisty Maryland side. Junior guard Amir Coffey scored 16 points with five assists and freshman Gabe Kalscheur added 13 points and three assists in Minnesota’s loss to Maryland. The Golden Gophers shot 41 percent from the field, 37 percent from downtown and a horrid 39 percent from the free throw line in their Tuesday night loss to Maryland.

Minnesota isn’t listing any significant injuries for Saturday’s game with Rutgers.
The Golden Gophers score an average of 74 points and allow an average of 68 points per game this season. Minnesota is shooting 43 percent from the field, 31 percent from long range and 65 percent from the charity stripe. The Golden Gophers average a total of 40 rebounds, 15 assists and 13 turnovers per game this season.
- Favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
- Over is 4-0 in Scarlet Knights last 4 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Rutgers is coming off one of the biggest victories in school history and usually a letdown occurs directly after. Omoruyi is out and while his going down gave the Scarlet Knights a rally cry against Ohio State, it won’t help much against a Golden Gophers side who were embarrassed at home by Maryland. I will be rolling with Minnesota on Saturday.
Full-Game Total Pick
The total isn’t on the board yet, but I can’t see it being higher than 135 points. And that works for me because I see these two sides maybe reaching 150 points. Maybe even more. Rutgers is going to come out of the locker-room extremely confident and Minnesota should be ticked off after losing to Maryland so I see plenty of points scored at the cup and maybe enough and ones to get to the total. I’m playing the over on Saturday afternoon.
