UT Arlington Mustangs vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
NCAAB: Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM EST
UT Arlington snapped their three-game losing streak in their last game and with the win they got their first Sun Belt win. Their offense had struggled in the three-game skid before putting up 82 points in their last game. Out of the gate the Mustangs are still behind the 8-ball at 1-2 in conference play. The main issue for UT Arlington this season has been scoring the rock, as they only rank 335th in the nation in ppg. ‘
Coastal Carolina won their conference opener with a solid road win over Troy, but they have lost their last two games to put them with UTA at 1-2 in conference play. They only scored 61 points in their last game and in this one, face a Mustangs’ defense that ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of points allowed. While not in their last game for the season the Chanticleers have been led by their offense that is averaging 77.4 ppg, which ranks 99th in the nation.
The home team is 4-0-1 ATS in the last five games between these teams.
Big 2nd half propels Mustangs to win
In their last game UT Arlington was on the road beating Appalachian State 82-72 where they were down by four points at the half and stormed back to outscore the Mountaineers by 14 points in the 2nd half. They shot the pill much better with a FG% of 48.3% holding State to 39.7% shooting and they won by 10 points even though they committed 16 turnovers. Brian Warren led the Mustangs with 20 points on 9/15 shooting, David Azore had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Tiandre Jackson-Young more than doubled his season averaging going for 14 points.
Warren (14.1 ppg) and Edric Dennis (13.2 ppg) are the only two players for UTA that are averaging in double figures on the season. Dennis only had seven points in the win over Appalachian State and in his last three games he is only 9/35 from the floor.
Rally falls short
Coastal Carolina was at home in their last game losing to Texas State 65-61 where they were down nine points at the half and their 2nd half rally fell short.

They only shot 39.6% from the floor and missed 16 of their 19 3-pointers and and Texas State shot 44.6%. The game was close with the Chanticleers getting 20 points from the charity stripe while Texas State only had six. Zac Cuthbertson was the only starter for Coastal Carolina to go for double figures and reserve Tommy Burton went for 14 points while he has only averaged 6.7 ppg on the season. Cuthbertson (19.1 ppg) is the only player for the Chanticleers that is averaging over nine ppg and he has scored below his season average in his last three games. He also leads the team in rebounding, but really needs help in the scoring department in this game. This season Costal Carolina is 4-1 at home and UT Arlington is 2-7 on the road.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Sun Belt
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record
- 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games
The UT Arlington Mustangs are:
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
UT Arlington is only 2-7 on the road this season, but they are coming off a road win and face a Coastal Carolina team that has failed to cover the spread in sis of their last seven home games. The Mustangs will play good defense in this game facing a Coastal Carolina team that struggled to shoot the rock in their last game. The Mustangs will not only cover in this game, but win as well moving to 2-2 in Sun Belt play.
Prediction: PICK: UT Arlington
Full-Game Total Pick
All the betting trends for the Mustangs point to the Under in this game and since CC will not have a good shooting game that is the pick for this game. UTA will play good D and get the win,. but they are a low scoring team and will not light it up in this game like they did their last one. Take the Under in this Sun Belt game, as that is the winning bet.
