Wichita State Shockers vs. Houston Cougars
Where and when: Hofheinz Pavilion, Houston, Texas, Saturday, 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time
The Wichita State Shockers will travel to Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas, for a Saturday night showdown versus the Houston Cougars at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for an exciting AAC Showdown. The Houston Cougars halted an extended winning streak in their last outing as they fell on the road to the Temple Owls as they rebounded from a six-point halftime deficit in which to outscore their opponent in the second half; However, their rally fell a bit short due to Temple’s ability to convert 25 of 28 free throw attempts while also getting 22 points from leading scorer Quinton Rose.
On the other hand, the Wichita State Shockers are losers of three straight games as their defense continues to let them down on a nightly basis as they allowed 47% shooting to the Temple Owls in their last time out while also allowing Shizz Alston Jr along with Nate Pierre-Louis to score 22 and 21 points, respectively, in the win for the Owls.
Cougars take step back with loss to Owls in last outing
For a Houston team that was beginning to heat up in their last three outings in averaging 80 points per contest, they were stifled by the Temple defense in their last outing as the team shot just 39% from the floor while holding Temple to just 38% from the field. And while the Shockers were able to hit 10 three-pointers on the night compared to only six for the Owls, Temple was able to get to the free-throw line much more frequently throughout this matchup, which ultimately sealed the deal for the home team in the end.
Quinton Rose lead the Temple Owls in scoring with 22 points while also pulling down six rebounds in a rough shooting night as he went 6-18 from the floor. On the other hand, Nate Pierre-Louis also chipped in 18 points in the victory for the Owls as well. On the other hand, Breaon Brady led Houston in scoring with 17 points for the night while going 7-10 from the floor while leading scorer, Corey Davis, went 4-11 from the floor in a rough shooting night as well while ending with 11 points in the loss for Houston.

And while the Houston offense has not been red-hot from the floor lately or throughout the season, they were especially horrible versus the Temple Owls in this matchup. For the season, the Owls are shooting just 43% from the floor while averaging a tad over 72 points per game. They will certainly look to get back on track versus a Wichita State team that has indeed been stingy on the defensive end of the floor lately. In fact, Wichita State is ranked in the top 10 in opponent points scored per game along with opponent field-goal percentage in 2018.
Shockers fall to Owls in last outing
The Wichita State Shockers have also not been a team that has lit things up on the offensive end this year as they are shooting just 41% from the floor on a nightly basis. Nonetheless, much like the Houston Cougars, they have had a tough, stingy defense in which to rely on in which to stay competitive within games. And while their defense was a bit uncharacteristic versus the Temple Owls in their last matchup in allowing the road team to shoot 49% from the floor along while connecting on six 3-pointers on the night, the Owls also got to the line 22 times for the contest while capitalizing of 22 turnovers for a Wichita State offense that looked dismal at times throughout the contest.

Nonetheless, the Wichita State Shockers went up by 13 at the half yet were outscored in the second half by a 42-29 margin as the Owls were able to force overtime, where they outscored Wichita State 11-7 in which to pick up the much-needed victory. Shizz Alston Jr along with Nate Pierre-Louis ked Temple with 22 and 20 points, respectively, while Markis McDuffie along with Samajae Haynes-Jones was the one-two punch for the Shockers as they scored 24 and 22 points for the home team with McDuffie pulling down seven rebounds in the win.
Nonetheless, the Wichita State Shockers will look to get down to basics in this contest versus the Houston Cougars as they will be looking to lead with their defense, as the Cougars have certainly stunk it up on the offensive end all year.
- Cougars are 20-7-1 ATS in their last 28 Sat. games
- Cougars are 20-8-2 ATS in their last 30 games overall.
- Over is 7-2 in Shockers last 9 road games
