For our Top Plays of the Day, check out the Fab Five:
The George Mason Patriots will both be looking for their ninth win of the season when the team travels to the Ryan Center to take on the Rhode Island Rams. George Mason is currently 8-8 after losing to Davidson in its last game. Meanwhile, Rhode Island enters this game with an 8-6 record after beating Richmond in its last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records in this one.
George Mason Suffers Close Lose To Conference Powerhouse
Last season, the George Mason Patriots went 16-17 and lost in the quarterfinals of its conference tournament to Saint Joseph’s. This season, George Mason has looked almost exactly the same as the team is currently 8-8. George Mason, however, did start its season out with three straight losses so the team has been getting better as the season has progressed. However, the team was in the midst of a two-game winning streak before losing its last game against Davidson. In that game, George Mason’s offense was awful as the team only scored 56 points on 32 % shooting from the floor. However, Davidson is probably the best team in the entire conference and George Mason should be pleased with the team’s efforts despite the five-point loss. With an easier opponent up next, the Patriots will look to rebound.
The George Mason Patriots are led by junior guard Justin Kier who was a solid player on last year’s team. Last season, Kier averaged 11.0 points per game along with 4.6 rebounds. However, he has managed to play even better this season as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game along with 6.4 rebounds. If George Mason has any chance of covering this spread, he will need to play really well.
Rhode Island Looks For Another Conference Win
Last season, the Rhode Island Rams went 26-8 and lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament to Duke. This season, Rhode Island has looked significantly worse as the team is currently 8-6. Rhode Island has particularly struggled on the offensive end as the team is scoring less than 71 points per game. However, in the team’s last game, Rhode Island’s offense actually played well against Richmond as the team scored 78 points on over 57% shooting from the floor which resulted in an 11 point win. However, if Rhode Island plans on making a serious run in conference play, the team’s offense will have to continue playing well moving forward.
The Rhode Island Rams are led by junior guard Jeff Dowtin who has been amazing this season. This season, he has emerged as a leader on the team as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game along with 4.3 assists. Although Rhode Island has been slightly above average this season, he has been a huge bright spot for this team and he will need to play well in this game for the team to cover the spread.
- Rams are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
- Patriots are 4-17-1 ATS in their last 22 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
- Patriots are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Overall, I think that this Rhode Island team is slightly better than this George Mason team but I think that home-court advantage will play a huge factor in this contest. George Mason is a crafty team but it plays a lot better at home and has had some lackluster results away from home this season. This game will be close but I think that Rhode Island’s guards will take over late. I’ll take the home favorite as a result.
Prediction: Rhode Island -5
Full-Game Total Pick
Although Rhode Island has struggled scoring consistently this season, the team is off of a great offensive performance and I think it carries over into this one. Both teams like to run their offenses through their guards which I think will lead to more opportunities in transition for some quick baskets. The last five meetings between these teams have all gone over so I will be siding with the over in this one.
Prediction: Over 139
