Tonight, ACC action sees the highly-rated Duke Blue Devils visit upset-minded Clemson.
Following an abrupt home derailing vs. lightly regarded Stephen F. Austin, Duke has rallied to gain nine straight wins coming into today’s contest. Among the notable programs downed by Duke this season include, Kansas, Georgetown, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Miami. The Blue Devils stand 4-0 in ACC play and recently eviscerated Wake Forest 90-59.
Meanwhile, Clemson has shown signs of late, winning two consecutive, after a 1-6 stretch. Though, the Tigers showed little competitive spirit in previous setbacks vs. Minnesota, Florida State, South Carolina and Yale. That stated, even with a two-game unbeaten run, and recent overtime win vs. UNC, odds remain long for a Tigers upset tonight.
Last season, Duke handed the Tigers an 87-68 loss.
Duke seeks tenth consecutive win tonight vs. ClemsonDuke is reloaded with premiere underclassmen, led by future NBA standouts Vernon Carey Jr. (17.4 pts) and Tre Jones (14.9). Jones added 23 points and five assists as the Blue Devils held ACC foe Wake Forest to 41-30 shooting while netting 53-47 in turn. So complete was Duke’s latest win that the bench added 27 points as Blue Devil regulars cheered from a comfortably seated sideline view.
That scene is likely tonight considering Duke’s offensive dominance. Overall, the Blue Devils average 83.8 ppg (#4 NCAA) and net 48-36 percent shooting while overwhelming opponents, generally. While scoring waves effortlessly flow from Krzyzewski’s arsenal, defensively the Blue Devils allow just 64.2 ppg -#10 nationally when pace adjusted.
Clemson vies for improbable win to keep streak aliveFollowing a rebuilding year that saw Clemson make a second-round NIT run, the Tigers lack no shortage of purpose tonight. A win over the third-ranked Blue Devils could build into a full-fledged upper conference chase. After downing North Carolina, Aamir Simms (13.9) and Tevin Mack (11.5) hope for larger scoring boosts to the team’s 251st-ranked offense. Defensively, the Tigers are among the nation’s best, slowing their opposition while allowing just 63.7 ppg.
Though, any hint of an upset from Colonial Life Arena begins and ends with two-way execution. And while plausibly Clemson holds a puncher’s chance defensively, it’s difficult to envision their offense matching strides with Duke’s pace-piqued thoroughbreds.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I’ll take Duke with the easy road win tonight. Clemson will put up a respectable effort, but the Blue Devils’ talent will prove too much at every turn for a Tigers group short on offense. Expect freshman sensation Carey Jr. to set the tone as his supporting cast follows on a night where Duke empties its bench while claiming the Tigers’ short-lived win streak. Take Duke with the win.
Full-Game Total Pick
I’ll take the Over here as I see Duke running up the score and eventually landing in the high 80’s or low 90’s. Clemson won’t lend much offense, but with the late total set at 137.5, the Tigers just need to break 50-60 points to bolster the Blue Devils’ high-octane output. When the final horn sounds, look for the Over in this Tuesday night ACC clash.
