Tuesday's Big Ten showdown features two teams with 3-2 records in conference play. Maryland enters this contest on a hot streak, going 13-3 SU in their last 16 games. On Tuesday, they travel to Madison to face the Badgers, a team they've struggled with, as they're 2-4 SU in their last six meetings with Wisconsin.

The Badgers are on a similar momentum course. They've gone 5-1 SU in their last six games and at home have been outstanding, where they've gone 7-1 on the season.

Tuesday's game takes place at the Kohls Center with tip-off slated for 9 p.m. EST.

The Terrapins' offense faces a stiff challenge

Maryland's offense has a slight dip in production when they play on the road where they average 67 points and only make 37% of their shots. However, they are still opportunistic in their scoring, as they place 40th nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

The only problem is they face a tenacious Wisconsin's defense that does an excellent job holding opposing offenses in check. The Badgers limit teams to 60 points per game on 39% shooting, placing them 23rd nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency.

There are two areas of opportunity for the Terrapins' offense. The first is on the perimeter. They only knockdown 31% of their three-point shots. However, they're facing a Wisconsin defense that doesn't do a great job guarding the three-point line where teams make 36% of their shots, so there are opportunities there for points.

Another advantage is the pace of play. Maryland is 155th nationally in adjusted tempo while Wisconsin is 350th. If the Terrapins make shots early, they can establish the pace of the game to their favor.

The Badgers' offense looking to overpower

Wisconsin's offense has been terrific at home where they average 75 points per game on 46% shooting. They're also prolific from behind the arc, where they make 38% of their three-point attempts. Combined, it's easy to see how the Badgers are 42nd nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency.

On Tuesday, they face a Maryland defense that's good on the road. The Terrapins hold teams to 66 points per game on 39% shooting. This places Maryland 8th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency.

As noted before, the tempo of this game could determine the winner. The Badgers like to play a slow, almost molasses-like pace where they take their time in their half-court game to find the best available shot.

And one player who could benefit the most from this is Micah Potter. Potter is coming off a stellar performance in the Badgers' win over Penn State where he scored 24 points. If he has another strong performance on Tuesday, it can help Wisconsin maintain its tempo against the Terrapins.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

This game favors Wisconsin's style of play. For one, both defenses are excellent at limiting teams to fewer than 66 points per game on less than 40% shooting. Due to this, I look for the defenses to shine in this one. And because the defenses shine, this slows down the pace of play, which favors Wisconsin. I look for the Badgers to have more success on the offensive end, as their patience pays off with some key crucial shots. In turn, I like for the Badgers to win a closely-contested game.

Prediction: Wisconsin

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

This contest features two of the most efficient defenses in the country. Maryland is eighth nationally by limiting opponents to 39% shooting while Wisconsin's is 23rd nationally, as they hold teams to 39% shooting. What's more, because of the defense's success, points won't be easy to come by for both offenses, and it'll slow down the pace of play which favors the Badgers. Moreover, the Under is 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these teams, so the smart bet is to take the Under in this one.

Prediction: Under
