Tuesday night college basketball action features an ACC contest between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Hokies have won six of the last ten meetings in this series including the previous three. Virginia Tech took down North Carolina State and the Demon Deacons lost to Duke last time these two teams took the court. Tip-off is set for approximately 9:00 PM ET from the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum from the campus of Wake Forest for this showdown.

Hokies Win Easily Over Wolfpack

Virginia Tech won their second game in a row as they cruised over North Carolina State 72-58 in their last piece of action. The Hokies perimeter defense was stout was they held the Wolfpack to only 20% from deep. Landers Nolley II paced the team with 29 points in the game. Tyrece Radford added 18 points with nine rebounds and Jalen Cone scored ten points as well in the win.

Nolley II leads the Virginia Tech offense with 17.9 points per game. Nahiem Alleyne averages 9.1 points and Radford contributes 8.4 points with 6.1 rebounds a night as well. The Hokies grab 35.8 boards per contest and they shoot 43.8% from the floor with 37.2% from deep. They commit only 9.7 turnovers an outing and they shoot 71.5% from the charity stripe as a squad. Kenpom lists Virginia Tech as the 57th best team in the country so far this season.

Demon Deacons Downed By Duke

Wake Forest lost their second showdown in a row as they were blown out by Duke in a 90-59 game. Being out-shot from the field mixed with 17 turnovers spelled disaster for the Demon Deacons. Torry Johnson and Olivier Sarr led the team with 13 points a piece in the loss. The team may be short-handed as Chaundee Brown is listed as doubtful for Tuesday with a leg injury.

Brandon Childress leads the Wake Forest attack with 14.9 points per game. Brown averages 13.3 points and Sarr contributes 12.4 points with 9.1 rebounds an outing as well. The Demon Deacons snag 38.1 rebounds per contest and they shoot 42.5% from the floor with 34.5% from three. They commit 14.9 turnovers a night and they make 74.3% of their free throw attempts as a team. Kenpom lists Wake Forest as the 100th best team in the country to date.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

I am all over the Hokies in this ACC battle Tuesday night. The big key difference between these two teams has been on the defensive side of the ball. The Demon Deacons are allowing their opponents to score 73.5 points per game which ranks them towards the bottom of the country in that category. Virginia Tech holds their opponents to only 61.3 points per game, placing them 32nd in the NCAA. The Hokies have covered the spread in six of the last eight meetings in this series and I believe that they will win this game easily. Bank Virginia Tech to take down Wake Forest and cover this small spread.

Prediction: Virginia Tech Hokies -1.5

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

I believe this game has the makings to be pretty one-sided as Virginia Tech has the tools defensively to shut down the Demon Deacons and blow them out. Pace of play will be key in deciding this total as the Hokies play at one of the slowest tempos in the NCAA, coming in ranked 330th with only 67.7 possessions per game. Wake Forest will attempt to speed up the pace as they come in ranked 77th in the country with 73.8 possessions an outing themselves. The Demon Deacons may be short-handed as well and given how Virginia Tech lives on defense more than anything, I don't see how this game reaches the over. The Hokies have played to the under in all five of their conference games as well as seven of their last ten overall. Expect this one to follow the trend as Wake Forest will find difficulty scoring against this stout Virginia Tech defense.

Prediction: Under 139.5
