The LA Salle Explorers take a two-game losing streak in to Rhode Island as they take on the Rams on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 matchup. It has been a week since the Explorers have taken the floor, losing to George Mason by a score of 76-63 last Saturday. The Rams have won three in a row after defeating St. Joseph's, 71-61, on Wednesday.
Explorers lose their way in second half against PatriotsAfter giving up just 26 points in the first half to the George Mason Patriots, the La Salle Explorers gave up 14 points in the first 2:16 of the second half, turning a 26-23 halftime lead for the Patriots into a 40-23 rout. The Explorers never got within single digits the rest of the way. Saul Phiri, who came into the game averaging just 7.7 points per game, paced La Salle with 19 points in the loss. Ed Croswell had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Explorers. La Salle shot 35.0% from the floor and 38.1% from three-point range, but turned the ball over 16 times in the game.
"We had momentum midway in the first half, and then we lost it towards the end," La Salle head coach Ashley Howard said in his postgame press conference. "I think that gave George Mason just a little bit of momentum they needed going into the second half."
The Explorers have lost three of their last four games, but had won eight of their previous nine games before that. They have played, and lost to, two ranked teams this season (Villanova and Dayton). Their only win in conference play has been against Fordham by six points.
