The 13-6 George Mason Patriots will go on the road Saturday night to face off with the 9-9 Davidson Wildcats at 6:00 PM ET in Belk Arena. The Wildcats are 7.5-point home favorites and we’re looking at a 136 over/under. Both of these teams are coming off a win and will be looking to keep it rolling tonight. Norther of these teams play overly fast, and they struggle with efficiency on both sides of the floor. Each team has their own set of strong suits that we’ll dive into, and it’ll be interesting to see if the Wildcats can get over .500 on the season and cover a solid 7.5 point spread at home over a George Mason team with a much better record.
You can be at the top of the hill and quickly dropAfter winning six straight games in a row, the George Mason Patriots have lost five of their last seven games and they seem to be letting the season slip away. With that being said, they took out the Massachusetts Minutemen 73-63 last time out in a game that was close throughout. The Patriots were trailing by three points at halftime before Javon Greene got hot and dropped 32 points on the heads of UMass. They’ll need another big game out of Greene if they want to stay with Davidson on the road.
Javon Greene is the heart and soul of this George Mason offense and he’s averaged 14.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 steals a game. Jordan Miller, AJ Wilson, and Jamal Hartwell II all average double-figures as well and play key pieces on this Patriots offense. Defensively, AJ Wilson is one of the most intimidating bigs in the country with 3.4 blocks per game and he is going to make it tough on Davidson in the paint. They’ll need to play a near-perfect game if they want to keep it close with Davidson.
Davidson looks to keep season afloatAfter dropping to 7-9 on the season, Davidson responded with two big wins over the Fordham Rams and most recently the Saint Louis Billikens. Davidson was favored by just 2.5 points in this game, but blew Saint Louis out 71-59 on the shoulders of Jon Axel Gudmundsson (20 pts, 8 reb) and Kellen Grady (18 pts, 7 reb). Gudmundsson shot a miraculous 15-of-16 from the free throw line and gave the Billikens issues all game long.
The Wildcats are a very balanced team, led by Kellen Grady with 15.7 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. It’s certainly not a one-man effort, though, as three others average double-figures. Jon Axel Gudmundsson is one of the more savvy players in the nation and he’s always tough for opting defenses to figure out. He averages 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game on the season. Luka Brajkovic mans the paint with 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds a game and does a great job at running the floor.
- Wildcats are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Wildcats are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games.
- Patriots are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Patriots are not a far worse team than Davidson and there is no way they should be getting 7.5 points here, no matter if on the road. Javon Greene and Justin Miller are two of the more dangerous players on the floor in this game and the slow-paced nature of George Mason keeps them under the radar. I’ll take the Patriots all day here.
Prediction: Patriots +7.5
Full-Game Total Pick
Neither of these teams play very fast, averaging just 70 and 69 points per game, respectively. The Davidson Wildcats are the home team in this game and they’ll always elect to slow the game down. They’re the more efficient team in this game and they’ll look to minimize the amount of possessions in this game. I expect the under to hit in a big way here.
Prediction: Under 136
