Illinois-Chicago Flames at Duquesne Dukes
NCAAB: Monday, November 14, 2018 at 8:00 PM EST
Illinois Chicago has not gotten off to a good start to the season, as they have lost their first two games. They have lost both of their games by double digits and both games were on the road. The Flames’ defense has been the main culprit for the losses, as they have given up at least 84 points in each of their first two games.
Duquesne won their first game of the season beating William & Mary where they were solid on both sides of the ball.

Last season the Dukes were playing well until the 2nd half and they lost nine of their last 10 games to finish .500 (16-16). This is the first-ever game between these teams.
Betting shooting game in loss
In their last game, UIC was on the road and they lost to Radford 88-78 where they shot the rock better, but still took the loss. They shot 50% from the floor and Radford shot 47.5%, but the Flames gave up 11 offensive rebounds and only had four, had more turnovers (13-8) and they allowed Radford to shoot 57.1% from beyond the 3-pt arc. Tarkus Ferguson was the high scorer for the Flames with 22 points on 7/13 shooting Marcus Ottey went for 18 points and two other players had 11 points. No player for UIC had more than five rebounds in the game.
Ottey and Ferguson are a guard combo that are the two leading scorers for the Flames averaging 17.5 ppg and 17 ppg respectively. The team lacks much size and rebounding is a major concern.
Strong 2nd half propels Dukes to win
In their opening game of the season, Duquesne was at home and they beat William & Mary 84-70 and had a strong 2nd half. They outscored W&M by 11 points in the 2nd half and for the game, they shot a solid 52.5% from the floor and allowed the Tribe to shoot 45.6%. while the Dukes gave up more offensive rebounds they forced 16 turnovers and only committed nine. Eric Williams Jr. and reserve 6’10 freshman Austin Rotroff tied for the team-high each going for 17 points and Michael Hughes chimed in for 13 points. Rotroff and Hughes are both centers and combined for 11 rebounds in the win over Williams and Mary and the Flames have to keep these guys off the glass.
UIC cannot allow second chance points on offensive rebounds, so they not only have to be solid on the boards, but also shoot a good FG%.
The Duquesne Dukes are:
- 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. Horizon League
- 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games
The UIC Flames are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss
- 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Monday games
- 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Duquesne has covered in seven of their last 10 home games and while UIC has covered in 10 of their last 12 road games that trend will not continue. The Flames have big issues inside, which is not good in this matchup since the Dukes have a couple of legit centers. The Dukes will have a good game on the glass and shooting the rock and they will win and cover winning their 2nd game of the season and sending the Flames to an 0-3 start.
Prediction: PICK: Duquesne
Full-Game Total Pick
I don’t see wither team lighting it up in this game, but Duquesne will get the upper hand with UIC not having a good defense. On top of that the Flames don’t have much size, so the Dukes will do well on the glass in this game including the offensive glass. Take the Over in this non-conference affair.
Prediction: PICK: Under
