Utah Utes vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers
Where and when: Williams Arena, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Monday, 9:00 pm EST
The Utah Utes will be visiting Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to play the Golden Gophers on Monday night at a 9 pm EST start time. The Utes are coming off a 75-61 home win last Thursday over the Black Bears of Maine as they used a 45-28 halftime lead to spur on the victory. And despite a late run in the second half by Maine, the Utes held the Black Bears to only 40% shooting for the night while also shooting 49% from the floor for the contest.
The Golden Gophers also scored a win over the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks by a 104-76 score as four starters scored in double digits for Minnesota with Amir Coffey leading the way with 18 points in the blowout victory.
Balanced attack for Minnesota in win over Mavericks
The Golden Gophers scored 50 points in each half as they were blowout winners over the Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha on November 6th. The home team shot 62% on the night while allowing the Mavericks only 44% for the game as the Gophers were never in danger of losing this game as four of five of their starters were in double figures led by Coffey along with Dupree McBrayer having 17 points in the win. The Golden Gophers heavily outrebounded the mavericks by a 38-19 margin while hitting ten of 21 shots behind the three-point line, with McBrayer hitting five of those.

They now look to face a Utah squad that held their opening night opponents to only 61 points on 40% shooting from the field. In other words, the Golden Gophers will certainly have a much more difficult time scoring in their upcoming matchup. It will be up to their top 15 offense in total points per game/field goal percentage to ensure that they continue to play at their current level.
Utes resilient in win over
The Utah Utes used a 45-28 first-half lead to cruise to victory on opening night versus the Maine Black Bears. Also, Utah shot 49% from the field in the game while outrebounding Maine by a 39-22 margin en route to their first victory of 2018. Sedrick Barefield scored 18 points to lead the team while Donnie Tillman scored 15 points and five boards in the win. Isiah White was the leading scorer for the Black Bears with 24 points as he hit three long balls; However, the team was allowed only 34% shooting from the three-point range, overall.

The Utes will likely find some success in facing Minnesota early in that they have given up some points thus far in the season while allowing opponents to shoot 44% from the field. Of course, the Utes will look to their defense in which to contain a Minnesota offense that was on fire in their last outing.
- The over is 5-2 in Golden Gophers last seven games
- The Golden Gophers are 2-2 ATS in their last five home games
- The Utes are 3-2 ATS in their last five games
- The Under is 7-2 in Utes last nine games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will back the Golden Gophers in this matchup as I happen to believe that they indeed have the better squad at this time. Combine this with the fact that they are playing at home, look for them to really take control of the pace for this game throughout, thus allowing for an all-important victory in the end. As stated, look for the home team to take the momentum from their last outing and apply it to their upcoming matchup as they will be solid at home, thus improving their record in the meantime.
Prediction: Pick: Minnesota Golden Gophers -380
Full-Game Total Pick
Look for this matchup to be over its set total as the Golden Gophers were deadly accurate in their last outing in shooting 64% for the game. Also, expect them to also give up points to Utah as the Utes were also accurate in their last outing in shooting 49% for the contest. With both teams focused on getting a much-needed win, expect for this to be a back and forth game to where the home team will take control over the course.
Prediction: Pick: Over 147
Full-Game Prop Bet
While I have confidence that the Golden Gophers will indeed come out with a home victory in this contest, I expect the Utes to also come out fired up to play in this contest. With that being the case, look for the road team to cover the points in this mathup, particularly with Minnesota likely finding issues with scoring on a solid defensive unit for Utah throughout the game.
Prediction: Pick: Utah Utes +8
Half-Time Side Pick
I happen to believe the Minnesota will indeed come out focused and ready to play early in this matchup. It is for this reason that I will certainly back the Golden Gophers and the points at the conclusion of the first half. Also, Minnesota has a bevy of weapons on their squad that will be looking to get going versus a defensive minded team in Utah. In all, take the home team with the points as they will be the most consistent offensively in the first half.
Prediction: Pick: Minnesota Golden Gophers -4.5
Half-Time Total Bet
There is no doubt that the Utes must be able to score points throughout this matchup if they are to put themselves in a position to pick up a win. I happen to believe that they will do just that on the road tonight versus a Minnesota squad that is a much better offensive team than they are on the defensive end. In all, look for the over to surpass its set limit as the half approaches.
Prediction: Pick: Over 69.5
Half-Time Prop Prediction
Again, look for the Golden Gophers to come out smoking on offense in this matchup. Of course, Utah will be able to weather the initial storm through a solid defensive effort throughout the first half. Nonetheless, the home team will indeed have an advantage as it relates to points as the first half concludes. It is for this reason that I will strongly back the home team to cash in on the money line at the half.
Prediction: Pick: Minnesota Golden Gophers -270
