Cal State Northridge Matadors vs. Loyola Maryland Lions

NCAAB: Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 9 PM EST

Cal State Northridge lost their season opener, but they put up a good fight only losing to a solid New Mexico team by three points. their last game facing Pepperdine was postponed due to wildfires in the L.A. area and the Matadors should be pretty rested for this game. Last season CSUN was only 6-24 and they faced LMU at home and lost by 17 points.

Loyola Marymount has won their first two games of the season and while they played a cream puff in the season opener they beat UNLV in their last game.

The Lions have played solid defense in their first two games giving up 43 points and 50 points respectively. They will face a CSUN team that put up 84 points in a losing effort in their season opener. LMU is 4-1 ATS in their last five games facing Cal State Northridge.

Close, but not close enough

In their first game of the season, Cal State Northridge faced New Mexico in a close game where the Matadors lost giving up a 3-pointer at the buzzer. They shot a lower FG% (51.9% to 45.8%) and a lower 3-pt FG%, but they kept the game very close and one of the reasons was that they forced 20 turnovers. Freshman FW Lamine Diane had a big game with 34 points on 15/28 shooting and had seven rebounds and Terrell Gomez was the only other CSUN player that went for over six points going for 21 points on 8/19 shooting. CSUN has to get more balance in their offense, as they surprised the Lobos with their two-thronged attack, but LMU will be ready for that and try to contain Daine and Gomez. One thing that really hurt the Matadors in the New Mexico game was that they were only 11/21 from the free throw line in the three-point loss.

Defense does it again

LMU was on the road in their last game beating UNLV 61-50 where their defense came through again. while they only shot 41.2% from the floor and 12.5% from 3-pt land they held UNLV to 38/3% shooting and they forced a whopping 24 turnovers. The Lions were down seven at the half only scoring 18 points, but in the 2nd half, they outscored UNLV 43-25. G James Batemon is the leader of the team and he led all scorers going for 27 points in the game on 8/19 shooting. Jeffery McClendon and reserve Joe Quintana were the other two LMU players that scored in double figures and they combined for 24 points.

Batemon averaged 17.8 ppg last season and the Lions are a guard-heavy team so the Matadors will have to defend the perimeter well, but on the other side of the coin, LMU will have to shoot the three better than they did in the last game.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

LMU has been a solid betting team in their last couple of seasons in non-conference play while the same cannot be said about Cal State Northridge. On top of that the Lions have covered the spread in their last six games. LMU has a solid defense and they will play that in this game and while they will not score a lot of points they will keep the Matadors in check. Take the Lions to win and cover the spread in this non-conference affair.

Prediction: PICK: Loyola Marymount

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

While CSUN put up 84 points in their first game they will come nowhere near that total in this game. Facing a solid LMU defense the Matadors will struggle to score points. The Lions are not a high scoring team, but they will get it done in the scoring department in this game. Still, in what will be a low scoring game the Under is the smart pick.

Prediction: PICK: Under

I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
